Hey guys...hope you can help me here!

I'm looking at one of these cases that Cold Ice and Ssliencer are making.

They have a optional cutout for a LCD for controler display.

Now im only having a very simple SS for uber cold and high load hold!

So realisticly i want a LCD temp display.

What are my option, whats out there, what can be done and be modded to do the job.

Idealy a k-type probe input for acuracey etc is ideal!

You can contact Ssilencer about a G-Froster.

Here is the thread...

I recently ha a look on all the available controllers and after choosing carefully, I ordered 2 G-Frosters. They look pretty well made. If you can spare the fancy blue display, you can also go with a fridge controller, e.g. from Dixell.

Although the display area on the 16x2 remains the same, the PCB is sits on, and hence the mounting holes, do not.
There is no standard mounting. I have a few which are all different.

The only good thing is that the interface is the same. You can purchase a display, mount it and then cable it to the controller.

Hello!

I think you are wrong in this point. Yes there are different sizes of 2x16 lcds. But these are standardized into 3 or 4 types. Their external pcb dimensions, mounting holes and pin positions are standard Slight changes to the crystal and is bezel are usually not a big problem.

I've been looking for the same thing for a long time. I very seldom have any use for a controller. Chilly has some cheap temp displays, but you are limited to red.

I guess there just isn't enough money to be made in supplying a decent temp display without controller functions. The only thing I use phase for is benching and a controller is just not needed. I could even live with them not being Ktype accurate, just something thats fairly close so I'd have an idea if something is going wrong, at least then I could bench without having to have one of my meters hooked up.

Wow someone read my post!!! Thank you. I shall go and ask Chilly about his, cheers

That is a mixed answer. My point is that you cannot cut out your case including the LCD mounting holes until you have the actual display in your hand. The LCD area is the same, but the hole positions are not guaranteed.

So chilly is the only person on earth that has these? Where did he get them from?

I've got one of these I picked up to try out.. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5392/tmp-34/Thermal-Star_Illuminated_Thermometer_-_Blue_Backlight.html?tl=g34c137s490

It works fairly well, looks good, comes in all different colors of backlights, and is cheap :) It does have some issues; it won't read below -50c, it won't read tenths of a degree below -20c, and below -20c the second digit is shorter than the first. The accuracy of the one I have is within 2-3 degrees of my Fluke. It's a pretty good meter if you just need an idea of what evap temps are, like to know if evap is pulling down to temp before you start the pc, or monitoring temps for a failure of some kind.

Pick a type of LCD, cut the holes, and go and buy the same type of lcd. OK not a good idea if you pick a not so common type of lcd.
A very common type is the one with pcb size 80*36mm
dimensions attached.

Contact Dimastech. I know he has something in blue.

OMEGA (http://www.omega.com/temperature/tsc.html)

Simple and low cost $50 will get you something like:

50$ for a simple tempreader? then you can buy fluke 52 (old version) and get much more exact tempture.

honestly I wouldn't pay more then MAX 30$/each for a temreader like those as they arn't exact. If i want exact temp I hook up my type K thermometer.

50$ for a type K is okay, but still pricy because you can get voltcraft 2 probe type K thermometer for as low as 60$+shipping incl 2 probes.

I'm not negative or blame anyone but I would be carefull if I was buying anything from chilly I can't pick up localy since he seems to have some really big issues to make units finished for his customers.

correct me if I'm wrong.

Tim

If you already have a thermometer, just set it on you desk and plug the kprobe in. A temp reader other then a k-probe sounds like a waste to me.
