Well I had some old cases sitting around so I decided to make a case. I cut the ends to make it shorter. I made it so I can put a power supply in it to power 12v fans. I was just going to cut one end of the sides to keep the stock retainer tabs on the top, but there are slight handle things on the sides that will hit the bottom so I think I'm going to have to cut both the top and bottom. What do you think about just cutting the front pannal to fit and drilling holes for air that way I can keep the power button. Or should I use a piece of plexiglass?

Edit: Oh and this is going under an Antec plus view.

Nice roof chop my friend.
Chopping the front panel will make a good front, but on the other hand you will end up with a rough cut edge on the top. If you can fix that cut edge somehow that'll look mint.

you will fit a nice tall compressor in there ..Good case chop, is it strong ??
just cut a round hole in the front and add a grill ??? good for air and keep your button/switch

It is strong because I left the mobo tray in. Without it it would need cross supports. I really wasn't worried about the top of the front when I cut as it would be covered by the case. So far the vote is %80 for other but there is no suggestions.

I was shooting for 10" tall as I have a NF11FX but I made it 10 1/4" just in case I needed a little more room.

Go to the hdw store and buy a piece of aluminum and make a smooth flat front with fan hole and display hole.

You could even use one of the side panels for the front, as long as there is enough left over.

Looks pretty good. When I read that you were going to make is shorter, I looked at the first pic and thought "why". The I saw the original faceplate. I would have done something like that if I had any spare cased. Instead I used some Alumaweld or something like that and mad a frame. I am looking for something to make walls and a ceiling out of.

I don't think you should do plexi unless it is window in an aluminium side.

looks sexy.. today I almost bought one of those cases to a beggar in the street that had a pile of those old cases ( not kojing).. the reason I was about to buy one was to attempt to do something similar to your unit.. looks very nice

What color is the case that this will go under? Black/blue opaque plexi/lexan maybe? I dont think the cut edge on that stock face plate will look any better than ugly.

Some more pics. All metal was cut with a die grinder and a cut off wheel. I just have the other side to cut. I'm a wiz with plastic so I may fab up a piece for the top.

Great work! As this case already is a bit, say, old computer style, you could make a nice industrial mod of it. One of the modders in Germany who makes nice mods is found here: http://www.ccc-butterkneter.de/

Perhaps you find a nice idea, especially when you are a wizard with plastics. My favourites are the Battlefield mods...

Plastic weld a piece for the cut edge on top, block it back, lick of primer and paint, and bob's your uncle!

Interested to see the finished result.

Looking pretty good. :yepp:

I was considering doing something like this with an old Lian Li I have lying around. I'm not sure how you are going to use the power button? I'm sure you can't just run 110v to that power button, you will have to do something with a relay or ???

I would strongly recommend NOT to run 110V to that little button. Just get a main switch from RadioShack. Or use a special relay and a power supply. There are special relays (I dont know the exact english term for it) that have a mechanic just like a ball pen: Every time they get an electrical impulse, they change their state and dont need power between to keep the state.

If you need further detail or if I should select you one, please tell me.

Philipp

No it would be impossible to use just that bower button as it is a momentary contact switch. I will come up with something. Or make my own front cover. I will work on a few things and see what everybody likes.
