Just got a new SATA drive the Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 120GB but its not scoring as high as 80GB Maxtor diamondmax drives, im wondering if theres somthing that has to be enabled or a driver i need to download, im running Win2k with the asus SATA 3112 driver off the mobo website.
SiSoft Sandra MAX3 File System Benchmark: 25,232
PCMark2002 HD Test: 1248

Maybe because the 120GB version does not come with 80GB platters afaik, while the 80GB version does come with 80GB platter.

Im pretty sure the 120GB is the same drive as the 160GB but with one of the platters disabled, I thought all these diamondmax 9 drives were 80gb platters

According to the serial number it has 3 platters, but how cause look at the HD tach, its gotta be 80 platters, i heard there might be acoustic management on this drive but i dont know how to turn it off on a SATA drive
Burst speed: 106061kps

One more thing, on SiSoft Sandra i get extreamly low Buffered and Sequential write, both are 21MB/s and ive seen reviews of my drive hitting over 70 on Buffered Write and 40 on sequential write mode
Maybe tex you would have an idea about somthing like this
Can you run an atto for me?
Maxtor has utilities for AM on their site. Have no idea if it applys to that drive though. How is it partitoned and formated? Are we testing near the rim or into the drive a bit?

I installed windows 2k fresh on this drive and just tonite upgraded to XP, according to the disk defragmenter the data is being written to the middle of the drive

Im on XP, i need some serious help, I was thinking it might be write verify on the hard drive but its gone through over 10 power cycles, tex could u look at this?
The writes are so sucky ... check the latency of the controller itself with powerstrip. Is anything sharing an IRQ with the sata controller? One of the slots will share an irq with the controller at the veryu least. For instance on the odl via ABits pci lsot 5 shared an irq with teh hpt raid at the board level and you always tried to avoid anything in that slot.

Well i dont think i have a problem of the drive having 60gb platters because this is a pretty decent ATTO for the write speeds on a single drive... I just took out my NIC which was sharing a bus with the raid card but nothing changed (i fixed the slow reads with dif drivers and lowering my system bus.)
Latency is 32
You need to try and increase the latency on the controller. Its probbaly at like 32 now. Bump it to 128 or so.

no change..... consider RMAing the drive??
Have you used the maxtor tools to verify write caching is on and stuff?
Moved teh controller to anlothe rslot? To another machine just to test?

Im not aware of any maxtor tools, but I have no other place to move the controller, its integrated, and no other pc's with SATA
Any cards in slots inerfering with the sata? Teh maxtor tools are on their site or you can email me and I will email them back.
