View Full Version : 1/4" BSPP nuts... do they exist?
Does anyone know where I can get these (UK would be nice!)
Just for clarity..imagine these, buuuttt without the "blanking" or "cap" part of the name ;)

Any hydraulic company will stock them, you can get them off 1/4" bsp bulkhead fittings.
These guys should be able to help you...

I just took a reciving pipe fitting that was the correct threading and sliced off a nut for my 3/8" NPT fittings.
The tricky part was the thread diameter tapers, so it wants to bind and stop short sometime before you get where you wanted it, but I'm not sure if 1/4" BSP is the same.

I dont get it...
What good does a O ring do if you have a nut over it?

Much cheaper than an official res, 10-15 minutes work (less if you have drill bits big enough!) and much more versatile. Total cost was around £5

Nice, what did you make it from?
a small plastic box from Maplin (UK version of Radioshack basically) they have a good selection of small tubs/boxes.
£20 for a real res- a plastic box with 2 barbs and a cap is a con, they cost pence to make, so I made my own :)

I'll see your res and raise

This is only my test res and yes that is distilled water in it. I work in a high school that has a distiller in the science dept. and I boil up about 4-4.5 gallons every now and then.:D
Fittings are all from Mcmaster (page 29 IIRC ecept the Legris), in fact, the nut's I used are the very same caps you posted earlier (I just drilled them out). Oh yeah, I used G3/8" male x G1/4" female adapter for the "bulkhead" for anyone that wants to know.
Show-off! :p: its not the size its what ya do with it that counts!
nah..seriously... nice job. How did you get the nuts lined up inside it?

I just tossed them in and rolled the res around until I could get a large Phillips screw driver in the threaded end of the nut, then I was able to stand them up while the res was on it's side with the holes at the bottom. I somehow lucked out getting the threads started and getting a wrench on the nuts to tighten them.
