Because of the overly elaborate NB & mosfet h'sink this mobo employs....
I'm concerned that I may not be able to use the IFX-14!?

Anyone got this combo working at all??

Aw great, looks like they've recently come out with a revision that doesn't have all the excess HS crap taking up half the board, just my luck!

Still, Id be interested to hear from anyone who has or hasn't managed to fit the IFX-14 on the Rev. 1.0 P35-DQ6.

Cheers,
Jed

I've placed a Ultra 120 Extreme on a DQ6, just have to remove the heatsink on the back. There are 2 nuts in the box which allows you to screw the NB heatsink back on.
The IFX-12 should be the same size as the Ultra 120 extreme.

Thanks, but the IFX-14's a lot bigger than the 120 extreme.
I don't think it'd be quite as simple :(
Anyone got an IFX-14 + Gigabyte P35-DQ6, If so, any luck?

I have the same board and I am currently in the process of putting an IFX-14 and 2 - HR-05 in a Danger Den Turture Rack. I originally planned to place it in an Airbox but impossible. I have also slightly modded the box to use the back plate heatsink. I have already spent countless hours using different scenarios, and I have reached a couple conclusions:

1- Mounting the IFX -14 is possible in both directions so long as you remove the 1 1/4" by 1" portion of the fins by the words Silent Pipe (easily removed)

2- It can be mounted and still leave the Crazy Cool heatsink in place and not using the Rear plate of the IFX -14 or the other way around.

3- The HR - 05 can be used if the Silent Pipe and Crazy Cool are removed

I hope this helps, I will gladly supply fotos of any combo sitting together if you would like since I am still working on another board and will not be putting the DQ6 together until this weekend.

Lastly,
Since I started about 2 months learning how to overclock and mod (Hardcore Mac user since 1988), I have learned 1 important lesson - ITS NEVER FINISHED OR FAST ENOUGH... I have went from 7 macs at home to now 7 macs and a whole room full of parts including 4 boards.

I wanted to thank everyone on Xtreme Systems for the tons of info I have leached over the last couple of months and a special THANKS to Rob725 who guided and help build my first system (even if I took it apart a week later to ramp it up). I crossed paths with him by chance a few months ago and I am sure he was tired of hearing about Macs by the end of the day, but a few weeks later he spent 2 days helping me and countless hours since them. Thanx again xtreme systems and rob725...

My very tolerant wife wants to thank everyone including rob725 for the thousands of dollars I have spent and incredible number of hours, but even she likes the idea of the WCG.... will be crunchin heavy 24/7 by the end of the week....

Sorry 4 the long post

Kilo,

Thanks very much for your response!! (hectic week)

I've decided against the IFX-14 because (according to most reviews)
the improvement in performance is negligible or (in some cases) slightly worse.

Quite a disappointment for me as I was holding off on a new build just for this HS.
Nevertheless I'd love to see photos of your IFX-14/WC combo on a DQ6!

I await some eye-candy with eager anticipation!

Cheers,
Jed

P.S.
I'm the opposite to you...
I was originally a hardcore PC user (dropped-off in recent years) but I've become a more frequent Mac (Intel) user in the past 12+mths.

Once u go Mac its difficult to go back ... Still luv my Macs and keep a fair number of them and currently have a few of them crunching for WCG ... Got 17" MacBook Pro crunching, a dual 1.8 gig PPC and an iMac 20" intel all crunching along with my assembly line of OC rigs.

I will post some fotoz by Sunday of the DQ6 and Asus P5N32 and BFG650i by Sunday...all aircooling and started with 1 board for OC and all the HS are a result of trying to make the ideal system for what i am trying to accomplish... good luck and BTW the IFX 14 has done well for me without all the bells and whistles attached and to a rookie like me I believe I made up the slight difference with the addition of variations of fans and NB SB heatsinks...
