Ok....please go easy on me...I suck at modding cases...There are plenty of marks around

Now I need to thank several people for the guidance and help
Ladderman
Sideroxylon
Maxxracer

and a HUGE thanks to AndyM:up:

I attempted best I could to imitate ladderman and AndyM....my cable management is at best fair...sorry guys

I will note I am no handy guy..I used a dremel for everthing and I will say it was a pain in the ass....the mobo trat was very hard to cut as was the rear part of the mobo tray holder to make a slot for cable

One really needs better tools than a dremel...and better skills..LOL

I cut the upper/lower chamber divider in 2 places(this turned out to be an error of hindsight..only needed one)...I do this so I can remove the entire loop in total

I used Lian Li wheels(ala Ladderman) and dvd stealth covers(inspired by AndyM)

I am proud of my work as I did more to this case than my P180...

I also purchased the Silverstone 5.25 HDD cage...this really affect the ability to hide the sata data cables and power cords for the DVDRW and HDDs

My hardware:
e6600 L629F @3600 1.4v
Badaxe2 rev 505 bios 2747
x1900xt CF-single card, run 675/800 in 3D only
X-Fi extreme music
2 dvdrw...Samsung SH-203B and Liteon LH-201AL
2 HDD..Seagate 320gb 7200.10 and 200gb 7200.8
Sunbeam fan controller on front(rad and HDD fans) and hidden fan controller in the case(this is for my 2 x 92mm Nexus and 2 x 120 top silverstone fans)
eSata bracket
Corsair 620W PSU

WCing:
Fuzion block with TR backplate w/ MX-1
MCW60 and MC14 ram sinks
DDC2 with DDCT-01s
PA120.3 with 3 YL in push and 2 Silverstone 120 as pull(from HDD cage with the case..very quiet...)
Masterkleer 7/16in
EK and DD high flow barbs
worm drives....
coolant..distilled H20 and Petra's additive that he gave a beta product last yr)

I remounted the Fuzion with new application of MX-1(I maybe using too much??)...temps still do not look good idle actually went up 1C

Few comments on these mods

1. wheels where pretty easy but in my case the nuts ..made placing the psu in place very tight..Ladderman get the credit..and thanks for the help:up:
...key point I bought 4-40 screws with nuts(from Lowe's..pretty sure they were 3/8in))....I need to place 2 small washer between the wheel housing and the case or the wheels would not turn
so I have a flat head 4-40 screw through the hole on wheel housing..2 small flat washers between housing and case..I drilled a 4mm hole in the bottom
inside I just have a nut on the screw, no washer or the length of the screw would stick up too much

2. I raised the PA120.3 with small furniture pads...this allowed to get better fan position over the grills and allowed to move it abit forward over the nuts from securing the wheels in the front

3. Grill mod...I used the gutter guard from Lowe's...$7 for 5/6 sheets
this was Sideroxylon idea:clap:

I cut with wire cutter..not real hard but a nuisance..you need to plan for the tabs..I only have tabs at the ends...none on the long portion..just 4 tabs.
I am about 1/4in short so I have a small gap but you cant really see it in the pic

4. The holes for my cables in the mobo tray were a pain to cut and I placed them so the cables would have an easy course....

AndyM's hidding of these opening is fantastic...but I was afraid to create too much bending of the cables and possible distort the mobo a bit

http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/7324/img4355py2.jpg

the rear cut to allow the cables to go up the back of the mobo was very hard with a dremel

5. DVD Stelath Bezels..very cool mod ...AndyM gets all the credit:up:
I love the look but I am not sure it was worth the effort

This was a :banana::banana::banana::banana: not cutting stuff but installing..I had the bezels in place and placed the drives and knocked the stupid bezels to the floor and scratched one:mad: ...I used a black sharpie...not a bad fix but not great...I was pissed

The installation required installing one 5.25 panel...then placing the bezels, then installing each dvdrw drive..then installing the second 5.25 panel(which would have been for me very hard..except I cut my lower/upper chamber divider so it flexed enough
then I screwed everything in place.....

Then guess what..turned everything on and lower dvd steatlh bezel would not allow the drive to open and stay open ...so I had to play with the drive's position..works fine now

I had to use same type of filler on the bezels, Andy did...but after moving stuff...the upper bezel felt loose..so I added some more filler to get a more solid feel

alot of tinkering.....oh yeah I installed the wrong dvd drive and this added an extra hour(I spent 4-5 hrs on this):slapass:

if you do this mod...changing a dvd drive is huge hassle

Agreed, but then the black edging might be hiding some rough cutting work. But what the hey, that don't matter. think they look sweet.

HEHE..closeups..would show some marks on the mobo tray ..and the molding is hiding alot...

did not want huge pics..to show all my faults

BTW thanks for the nice comments guys...I love this case EXCEPT for fingerprints and the panels are anodized black or soemthing and if you mark/scratch it it you see silver underneath

Looking good! One of my DVD doors was hitting the eject button also, the mod does need fine tuning for sure. I've been thinking that maybe putting the bumpstops that come with the DVD doors on the face of the drive so it doesnt go so forward into the Lian Li doors might help. But I'm not about to take mine apart either to try that, lol.

I've been thinking, you could ditch that spotcool and 159 buzzbomb fan by reversing the top 2 120mm fans. Or get a MCW30 for the 975x even...dontcha love the possibilities of a never ending upgrade cycle? :D

Enjoy the new box!

I fixed the dvd issue by slight movement back on the dvd drive..given everything it is a sweet mod....small tradeoff to make sure the stealth bezels are essential flush...otherwise one could actually place something on the inside where the bezel meets the 5.25 panels but this might push the bezel slightly to far forward and not be "flush" with the case

The MCX159 and Coolspot are not audible ...I would love a MCW30 but the issue is mounting on the Badaxe2...

I am disappointed at the way the sharpie looks fixing the stupid scratch...oh dear me I may buy another bezel just to appease my carelessness

Danger Den has a quad-hook block, kinda expensive and uses possibly cracking plexiglass for the top though. But the MCW on a BX2 is definately do-able. It does use 4 hooks with its wire springs, fairly stable if you put a dab of RTV on the corners to make 'feet' for it, hook it down, and let dry.

Here's the MCW30 on a BX2. If you decide to go with it, order some metal barbs for it...those plastic ones are nightmares with 7/16".

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j186/amichalski00/TJ07build216.jpg

Yeah, good thing the bezels are cheap. You know....I noticed Petra's has those now...and they sell MCW30's as well....I'll stop now :p:

Looks great, neal.
Seeing the V-series wheels on your case gives me a sense of the size it is.
That's seriously big!
Did you decide against using the rubber tyres? Think their black look would tone well with your case.

I no longer use any plastic barbs and personally swiftech need to dump them altogether..my mcw60 has EK or DD high flow barbs cant recall now

I bought my bezels last Wed..I thoughjt I looked at Petra for them...crap rather buy from him the Performance PC any day..sorry

I am really thinking about buying another bezel ...I must be crazy..... :yepp:

Lian Li wheels...key point I bought 4-40 screws with nuts(from Lowe's..pretty sure they were 3/8in))....I need to place 2 small washer between the wheel housing and the case or the wheels would not turn
Ladderman was more elegant in his installation of the wheels than me

Jedda..I have the rubber tires and like the look more but everytime you move the case the rubber sems to move and slide either inward or outward and becomes a pain in the arse...now my front wheel housing despite measuring(remember front of the case is curved) is slighlty anlged so the case rolls not perfectly straight but very close, one needs a moderate distance to see the off line mov't..so this may play a role...or just not have the rubber tires aligned perfectly on the wheel itself

Also these wheels do not turn side to side so you have to lift the case and it is heavy so I lift front, then back..guess what the rubber moves...if you roll the case then the tires slide on the wheel

Performance PC has black wheels..but they want $40 vs $25 from newegg fo the silver...Inretrospect given what i have spent I should have bought the black wheels ....but I hate being ripped off(the black wheels are a "performance-pc" exclusive
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=133&products_id=4407

not sure how fast the black would wear off...I may try at some point painting the wheel side black..which would have a slight silver white wall so to speak

Nicely done Neal. I told you making those grills wasn't that tough. I ended up with just tabs on the ends also. I use wire ties for the middle. Good job bud.

thanks...the gutter guard was just not wide enough for tabs on the sides..I thought about using zip ties but with the molding was not too crazy about looks

That's the problem with modding..that I can fix now

I have tried to get another Lower panel grill from Silverstone and few replacements screws...the US support does not have this parts...LOL

Imagine if I asked for a mobo tray..HAHAHA

Blah...more I look at Andy's setup the more cluttered mine looks(in fact it does not even look like I have a cable management skills)....that damn Silverstone HDD just allows no way to clean up the cables because of the way it mounts

I took pics of my machine with no wires in it...I never said the machine was actually functional

I'm wondering about the Silverstone HDD rack...any chance of turning the HDD's around, using 90 degree sata cables, and making a hole for the sata/power cables to pass though it? Then have those run along the back rail. Might help hiding some wires.

The HDD rack is well built it is hard to describe but there is the shell that house the drives, then they have 2 metal panel that fit on the side and use rubber mounts..this panel is what you are placing the screws in.....

best pics
http://www.dreamwarecomputers.com/reviews_2007/silverstone_cfp51/index2.htm

I did remove the stupid perforated panels behind the fan for better airflow..the fan is very quiet

Turn the HDDs around...that probably would work then you could run the cables through the bottom of the HDD rack ..Hmm
Damn you ..now I need to buy more cables...the power sata cable with our psu should fit through perforation in the bottom of the rack...hmm..looking at pics not sure if they will fit

still dont think there is a way for the dvdrw cables to pass ok...unless you modd the cage with holes...

AndyM
08-26-2007, 06:17 PM
A hole saw works wonders

On the DVD cables...I'm wondering if they could snake up between the mounting panels and the body of the HDD cage. But that hole saw idea seems easier. If the drives are turned around in that cage, is there clearance for cables should they get routed there or would you have to move them back leaving them hanging out of the cage somewhat?

there is really no way for cables to go along the sides...

the pics I linked he has the perforated portion as the top...I turned mine the other way..simply becasue the fan wire has groove to pass through and preferred the wire on the bottom

I guess you could move the HDD back, turned around and make a small hole in the nonperforated top and maybe pass all the cables ...but from what I can tell the SATA power cables from the 620W are kinda short IMHO.....my Intel sata cables may not reach as well....

Well, if you want to mess with it, on mine the 2 DVD sata cables are 36" from svc.com (only place I could find black 36" 90's) The 2 HD's are 24" from the same place. The power cable going to the DVD's is a stock 620 cable, but you have to pull one of the mid-span connectors off and move it up as I did. The cable is at the very limits of length needed and to get 2 drives on it, you have to shuffle connectors (quick reference pic in sig).

Look at the top DVD, that's the end of the cable. The second DVD has a connector 1 inch below that on the power cable ribbon. That connecter's former location was further down the ribbon.

Pop the cap off, pull the connector off, figure out where you want it, spread the ribbon wires a bit, jam in wires back into the connector with a screwdriver, put cap back on.

Photos of connector disassembled and reassembled here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=149265). The hardest part is jamming the wires back in as you are cutting through the insulation anew, but it works out ok.
