View Full Version : Best air cooler for P5K-E/Q6600 G0???
Hi
What is the best air cooler that fits an Asus P5K-E/WIFI for a Q6600 G0 overclocked to about 3.6Ghz?
A lot of people are running the Ultra 120 Extreme. But now there's the new
IFX-14. Is is better?
Or is the Tuniq Tower better than them both?
Or maybe something else?
I'm not worried by noise.
Thanks
John

No, get the TRUE.

the ultra 120 x is pretty much the best cooler right now
then the tuniq tower, followed by the asus black knight!
big TT is still a nice choice aswell if you where running 3ghz with a quad.
the new thermalright, iam not sure about.. it looks like a real PITA to install honestly, and probably only going to perform 1-2c cooler if that..
Thank you aldamon & strange|ife.
Then I will definitely get either the IFX-14 or the Ultra 120 Extreme.
I read that the IFX-14 comes with a better mounting kit for socket 775. And also that the IFX-14 can offer the same performance as the 120 but with lower fan noise. Locally it's only A$10 more expensive. It is a monster though, and I'm not sure whether it would clear the north bridge on the Asus P5K-E/Wifi.
After a lot of debate, I got the Ultra 120 Extreme. I fitted it today.

TRUE > IFX-14
but i've also heard the true mounting isnt as tight as it should be and needs some modding.
i was also interested in ifx until i rethought about it's bulk :shakes:
thermal right mountingscrews/springs may need additional small washers to add mounting pressure...or somesuch.
cant complain about the hardmount of the tuniq...but it is beaten by ifx and true in performance.

I use the regular TR Ultra 120 and it does an awesome cooling job without too heavy a weight hanging on the board. The mounting bracket locks down totally tight and doesn't allow it to rotate at all.

What are your temps(cores) on stock?

I used a washer under the "sizzors" clamp. I felt like I had better because I lapped the heatsink. My heatsink rotated very easily even with the washer. I zip tied the heatpipes to the "sizzor" bracket on all 4 corners of the heatsink (advice given to me by a friend). This limits rotation. I think a bit of thin automotive double sided trim tape on each side of the washer might aid in stopping rotation but I haven't tried this yet.

All I can tell you is 1.4875vcore in bios is 1.46v in Probe at idle and 1.44v in Probe under full load.
Coretemp under full load was 60. (can't recall idle at moment)
That's with 2 x 100cfm fans mounted on the Ultra 120 Extreme heatsink.
