Im wondering if someone could answer this problem for me. . .
I have been having fun overclocking my Q6600 GO this week. I have managed to get it prime stable for over 8hours @3.6GHz with 1.49vcore but when I push for 3.8GHz using a vcore of 1.59v after about 20-30 min the pc just shuts down, like pulling the plug out of the back!
Im sure its not an issue with temps as im on water cooling at the max temp I have ever seen is 65c when priming @3.8
My specs for my rig are:
Abit IP35 Pro (flashed to latest official bios, 11)
Quad 6600 GO
3 x Hard Drives
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) Black Dragon
8800 GTX (overclocked to 660/2000)
1x DVD re-writer
1 x DangerDen G5 water pump
2 x U/V cold cathodes
5x 120mm Fans
Is it possible now that my PSU is not powerful enough now? I have to say that the fan does come on full blast when overclocking and it does feel warm.
Is this the reason when I try and prime @ 3.8 it's just straining the psu to much and there is some sort of thermal shut down?
I have to say im quite tempted to get the Enermax Galaxy 1000W which should more than cope with my load.
I would really appreciate some advice here!
Thanks
:)

I guess its not :( if I were you I would buy a better PSU and if you still have the shutting down problem return it and RMA your board

I doubt it's that the psu isn't powerfull enough....You aren't even using the GTX at the same time so power draw should be around 300W maybe. My first guess would be that you are not cooling the northbridge and PWMs enough!

Thing is the board is rock solid @3.6, as it passed prime for over 8 hours although the psu warm and the fan on full, but I guess the extra wattage for 3.8GHz with the increased vcore is just too much for it. :D
I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience like this?

I might just do that and see if it makes any difference with placing a fan over the central northbridge heatsink, you never know.
By the way the GTX still consumes a lot of power even at idle, 220w and that probably not overclocked!:

Should be fine, I powered a similar setup on my 500w Liberty.

that is the consumption of the complete system at the wall outlet not just the card....
