Hey all

My good old trusthworthy DFI Lanparty Expert died yesterday - leaking northbridge waterblock - small crack in the plexiglass top :(

So guess the time has come for me to try these new Intel chips :)
I have the Q6600 in mind, will hopefully be a G0.
I do plan to watercool the CPU at least.
And I do plan to do some overclocking also :)

But which motherboard to chose for this CPU?
I did not plan on spending a lot of money (since I don't have a lot to spend right now)...

I've had my eyes on the following:
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
ABIT IP35 Pro
ASUS P5K Deluxe

But now I see post with the DFI LanParty UT P35-T2R - was very happy with my DFI Expert, but the P35 DFI boards are not avaiable here in Denmark yet.
And maybe the DFI LanParty P35 T2R - would be more equal to the other three - price wise...?

My need for new parts are not critical - running on a backup PC, so guess I could wait some weeks for the right best priced motherboard for the Q6600..

The Gigabyte board will be able to use DDR3 when that matures, but read somewhere here that it has a nasty vdroop?

So, is it worth waiting for the DFI boards and will one of the other boards make me equally happy - in terms of moderate overclocking capabillities?

all 3 are good overclockers, i think you also might want to wait a few weeks til the x38 mobos come out.

Well, since I have no intention of goinf SLI/Crossfire, as far as I can tell, the only reason to wait for X38 would be even further improved overclocking capabillity for Quads?

The X38 chipset will offer a few new features over the P35 chipset that is being released today including support for PCI Express 2.0, support for Intel's upcoming 45nm processors and dual x16 PCIe graphics slots. Additionally, this slide indicates that Intel will be REMOVING the overclocking protection from the chipset and this should allow tweakers to really push Intel's core logic and CPUs to the limits.

But hey, that could be a good thing ;)
But then the question with X38 becomes:
Go for DDR2, DDR# or a hyrbrid model?

Well I made the decision to purchase the Asus P5K for my Q6600, since it's a proven board and a minor investment in relation to the rest of the rig. I'll bite my time until Dec, Jan to see what comes about with the x38 experiences.

i would go for the x38, for one reason and on reason only, PCI-E 2.0, 9800GTX will be a PCI-E 2.0 card, will be backwords compatibile with 1.0 but max performance will come with 2.0

A man after my own heart. I was disappointed with my EVGA 680i A1 that I've had since April when I stuck a Q6600 G0 in it at the first of the month. So I modded the thing a little too hard and broke it. The PCB was awful flimsy. But for dual core it worked fine. I'm going with the Asus P5K dlx even though my Ultra-D was the best MB I've had and I am very impressed with the new P35 LP UT they just put out. I just can't see an extra 100 bucks U.S. for possibly a few fps if that. For a personal game machine that is just an electronic black hole I throw money in I can't see the use. I want to wait till the kinks are worked out of the X38 before I think about it. It will be a while till DDR3 matures also. When my 8800gtx starts lagging I see what's happening then.

Yeah I'm sure it will be worth the 2 FPS
