Hi. I've been working on building a new system recently. It has been interesting, but now I have a problem. My GPU died on my last system (sig), so I'm looking for something to replace the x850 card, but still enough to play my games at 1280x1024 max settings. I've been thinking about the 8800GTS, but I don't know if I want to go that high. I keep debating on the subject and coming to the same conclusion: I will probably be more than satisfied with the 320gts, so I should buy it now. But is it worth the price right now? or should I go with a card such as the 7900gs and wait for price drops? I am looking to overclock anything with a frequency ;) so please keep that in mind. Thanks ahead. Oh, almost forgot the specs :p:

My new rig's specs will be the following:

*Everything I have or have ordered unless stated otherwise

CPU -Q6600 G0 (Ordering tonight CLUBIT)

Motherboard - Abit IP35 Pro (Ordering tonight Newegg)

Memory - Patriot PC2-6400 2(2GB(2x1gb))=4GB total

PSU -Antec Quattro 850w (Expected arrival Friday)

HDD - 2X WD740 ADFD

Case - Antec 900

Sound Card - X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro

if ur playing at 1280x1024 the 320gts will be perfect for it, but keep in mind that the g92 is coming out in september so they will have, and gts with 512mb most likely (no more funky off bit rates and memory capacities they are moving to 512bit bus) so i think that ether that or the 8800gts 320 at the next price drop will be your best choice

also keep in mind going from ati to nvidia u will need to expect jumpy frame rates and frame lag, thats just what comes from making a card to do frame quantity over quality

and if u dont have the patriot ram switch ur order to crucial blaistex, patriot switched their latest 6400 sticks to promos dims and those arnt good

Well I really don't want to build a gaming system now and upgrade in a couple months  doesn't sound too good. I'm guessing the GTS will drop from ~$270-310 > ~$200-$240. I'm really troubled at this point with what to do :(

Does ATI make higher quality cards than Nvidia? I thought this was simply a rumor...

I already purchased the Patriot memory. By Promos, do you mean that they make their own chips? Because 2 minutes after they arrived, I tore the HS off :p: I was disappointed having looked at the IC and seeing the Patriot logo on it  I don't even know the capability of this chip. I googled it and found only 4-5 sites. This being one of them which included pictures. VERY SIMILAR but not EXACTLY the numbers. The only things that were the same were the Patriot logo and the PM64M8D2BU-25PAC writing.

Those days are long gone, Nvidia high 8 range is in the same league concerning image quality as ATI, I also noted a better image quality with the 79 series... don't see where you get this from...this is from the old days mate

Till now there's an issue with the 8800 GTS 320 mb version but Nvidia will rectify this with a driver update... best ATI card bang for the buck for now is the 1950pro in many hardware mags...

I have had many cards but I prefer Nvidia for the better driver support in games and the heat output/wattage draw of the ATI's is getting ridicilous...
