Would this card be worth upgrading to from a 7900 gt ko.

It is not that better... in fact, in some games, it can be a little worse. If you can, try to go to a 8800gts, that would be definately worth an upgrade.

8600 GT or GTS are not worth the money due to the 128 bit memory controller, Nvidia will rectify this with the new G92 ( I beleive) with a true 256bit controller, a 7900/7950GT will be faster in most games,

DX10 on such a card is hopeless...
