i was searching online and saw that nvidia has two different types of the 8600gt cards. i was wondering which one is better and what is the difference?.
1. nvidia geforce 8600gt 512mb 128bit gddr2
2. nvidia geforce 8600gt 256mb 128bit gddr3

8600gt 256mb gddr3 is definately better. High memory frequency, better overclock and, of course, more bandwith.
Never heard about a 8600gt with ddr2 memory modules :confused: .

Do not get the ddr2. All reviews say to avoid the ddr2 as it performs and overclocks poorly compared to the ddr3. that is why it is cheaper. I think biostar sells both versions.

imho its typo, it should be 512MB ddr3 as well.

Well after some googling I found out that both gigabyte and biostar have a 8600gt with 512mb ddr2.
Of course their performance is not the same as a 8600gt with gddr3 memory. In this kind of card memory speed is rather relevant than memory quantity.
