Just received Ultima 90 today. Test it against Tuniq Tower 120.
Room temperature ~25°C. Both coolers use the same fan from Tower 120 at full speed(~2000rpm). CPU is a Core 2 Duo E6400 lapped oc to 400MHz X 8 @ 1.3V. Memory is Crucial Ballistix DDR2 8000 @ 800MHz (4-4-4-12). MB is Intel D975XBX2. All previous TIM had been cleaned with alcohol and reapply with AS5.

Conclusion:
From my simple testing, both coolers preform about the same. I like Ultima 90's mounting system, it is easier to setup than Tower 120. Also Ultima 90 is lighter and small than Tower 120.
I just order an Ultra-120 Extreme. It should arrive Thursday. If I have time, I will have anther test between Ultima 90 and Ultra-120 Extreme.

yes please show us the results of the ultra test
and for sure thanks for sharing
I swapped the TR Ultra 120 Xtreme to Tuniq Tower and IMO Tuniq's mounting system is better. The cooler doesn't wiggle around and there's no tools needed.
PS. I had a spacer between the mounting bracket and the cooler when I had the TR Ultra and still the mounting wasn't tight enough for my taste.

well it's funny how ppl say that tuniq is better then Scythe products , i have C2D E6400 @ 3.2Ghz ~1.325V (stock voltage and that speed for power consumption , chip can do 3.7Ghz easily ~1.475V ) Orthos after 1hour has 53C with case doors closed , setup without the case is doing 50C. All readouts from CoreTemp
Anyway that above is O.T from me, my real question is why the author of this test didn't test these coolers in enclosed case ;] ? It would give real world performance numbers. Anyway GOOD JOB , thanks for the effort .

firslty u can't compare ur results ot any other person's cause the room temp is one of the varialbles that will make this comparision useless
secondly testing in open air make the room temp varilable much easier to control instead of a closed case where air flow is not controlled
and we don't want real perfromance we want delta temps between the two coolers

The mounting system on Ultima 90 is different than Ultra 120 Extreme.

If I have time, I will test them again in case. But I think they should preform about the same as long as your case have enough air flow.

let me tell you something about that mount...it's a JOKE!...here is what i posted in two other threads about this heatsink.
i put this puppy on my quad core "G0" and i had to add 2 fans (push-pull) to make up the difference from Ultra-X....i have a silverstone 120mm in front and a silverstone 92mm pulling....the 120 is a 2.5K and the 92 is a 3.8K speed fan.
the 92 mm or 90 mm clips were not even close to being able to hold on to the fan...it was a joke!...finally figured out that i had to bend the points that covered the screw holes....the 120mm clips worked perfectly!
the under the board brace (back plate) and TR's solution to insert these base studs, with a rubber "O" ring for holding in position, is a COMPLETE JOKE!...their mounting solution at least from the bottom is miserable!!!...many thumbs down on that approach ...i had to use super glue to keep the base studs in position so it would not fall out from the back plate as i tried to push the studs into the mobo holes.
don't waste your money on this cooler...you would be better off shelling out a few more bucks and buying the Ultra-X...at least you can use a 38mm fan on that puppy!...AND...if you are into Xtreme cooling, just buy an extra set of 120 clips from sidewindercomputers.com and you can mount two 120mm X 38mm fans on the Ultra-X.

You keep saying the mount is bad but what about the temperature read?

The mounting on Ultima 90 is OK, but the back plate for sure is worse than Ultra 120 Extreme.

I received my Ultra 120 Extreme yesterday, but the base still a little bit of convex.
Just stopped lapping the hs because I got just got cut by the glass. Will finish lapping tomomrrow.
