View Full Version : Antec SpotCool
I would like to use these, but I first need to know if I can rip out the LEDs. I hate all lights, LEDs or CCFL and especially blue (and I am serious), and I won't use this product if I cannot get a plain black look.

I'd like to know if these are that useful. By looking at the specs they move a paltry amount of air.
They can be bent like no tomorrow. That's how they become useful. Can be used for the mobo mosfets and other mobo hotspots. Thankfully, there are great ramcoolers out there.
Thanks for input lol :)

I've actually been on a hunt for a quiet slot cooler without LEDs with no luck.
Was about to buy one of these out of desperation...didn't know they had LEDs too :(
And no, I don't really like mauling hardware. :-/
And yeah, even though 10-20CFM may not seem like much, it's more than plenty for those small, hard-to-reach spots that this thing can find :)
Least common denominator... LEDs sell.. check out the bling blue lights... good grief..

They're not as bright as you'd thik they are from the pics.....
I'm about to tell you how to get Antec Spotcool on the cheap.
Back in 5 minutes.
**Edit.
OK, back.

2. Go to eBay and buy 3 x $3 ink coupons for about $2.75 total.
(The codes get emailed)
3. Sign Up to be a Staples Rewards Member (Free Shipping on ALL items you purchase)
4. Use ink coupons to knock $9 off the $11.99 price and bring it down to $2.99 + any applicable tax.

LOL. Wow, I have a whole book of those coupons sitting in my room. I use them at work for drinks and stuff. I don't even remember how I got them, I think my manager gave them to me.

I'd like to know if these are that useful.
It's about 2x more air than the dominator fan at 25% the noise level...on low.
They can be bent like no tomorrow.
QTF! I've got it mounted just to the right of the top right corner of mobo. It's bent enough so that it hovers 1 inch above the center of the RAM. And it DEF keeps them chilly. :D

If you dont like the LED just put a dab of black RTV over them. Can be removed later if need be.
Just a warning. I picked up one last night. It worked well and I was happy, so I bought two more. I took needlenose pliers to all three. Same treatment. Unfortunately, I borked one of them.. tried all three out with the LEDs. So, do not mutilate your SpotCool.. its a risk :)
I went out and bought one more and mutilated it as well... and all is well :) I have no idea what went wrong with the one that was damaged. They work very nicely and the flexible arm is the best part. Its pretty quiet even if you run it on high setting.
Incidently, the reason why I am so against the LEDs is not just because of aesthetic preferences. I water cool and lights are the enemy when it comes to algae build up.
It was expensive because I bought from Worst Buy.. come to think of it.. maybe I should try to act dumb... my fan/light doesn't work.. I dunno {newbie puzzled look}.. it was like that... I need an exchange! lol :)

Losing something because of your own failure sucks, but it's never a good idea to take advantage of even the worst buy. :D

Then you are a big-box retailer's wet dream.
Instant gratification at full retail price vs. wise shopping and a little patience.
Did I mention Staples Rewards members usually get their shipments the next day after they order? :D
