ok so for my senior graduation project im going to try TEC cooling, im currently reading the guide on this site and other sites but i just wanted to know how much a good TEC setup would cost me? and if you could reccomend some good parts that would also be appreciated.
my rig: Lian Li pc 7B+ - E6600- 1gb OCZ DDR2 800 - XFX 8800GTS - Hiper Type R 580watt - couple hdds ide and sata (4 to be exact)

on a core 2 duo it is not a good idea to use tec because you will not be able to OC at all.

Um...why?

Thats a very collective statement there and doesnt take into account really, well, anything.

The heat load of the cpu and every thing else in your water loop.

It can work, just you won't be getting beautiful temps with a 320/226 watt tec. You do need to go somewhere bigger, or to a TEC chiller, or to a block with multiple TEC's.

exactly!

But that doesn't mean TEC's are unsuble with a C2d. Infact, it just means you cannot use the old TEC method, or the older TEC blocks.

and the temps you will keep at are no better then big air! so it is useless IMO.
you know nol you have so much to explain why didn't you tell him all this info 3 days ago.

Been busy, and I left you to the TEC section a long time ago, unless you thought I was joking? ;)

yeah I remember you saying that! :(

Seriously, not to sound contrite, but you are just plain wrong.
I have a 226W pelt on a Danger Den Maze-4 and pull sub-0C temps all day long on a E6600. With a decent overclock (3.2GHz) I'm still sub-0. Not really sure where you are getting your data, but it is completely incorrect.
I also have a Wintsch Labs Arctic Web on a QX6700 running at 3.4GHz, and I'm sub-0 on that as well. It creeps up to about 10C at full load, but still, for the hottest chip on the market, I think this is pretty good.
To say that TEC cooling won't keep you below ambient is just ludicrous.
Here's a pic to prove it - this is when I had the chip set up as a stock QX6800 - the CPU temp here is actual chip temperature - not the temperature at the cold plate or anything -

And here's the same chip at 3.6GHz -

As you can see - they are both FAR below ambient. Also, this was done with a crappy radiator and a crappy pump, my temperatures are much better now that I have a decent pump and radiator set up.

I would like to see pics of this setup! I would guess your using a 120.3 rad with 3 120 fans running at least 48dba each! and all on a maze4 waterblock. also it is not even close to the hotest chip out there.
But if you must know I am going by my experiance with tecs thus far. Also if you look I said IMO not that it was law :p:

Actually, I am running this all in a koolance 725 case... res and pump built into the case, as are the fans and radiator.
You don't think the QX6700 / QX6800 are the hottest chips out there? Please tell me what other chip runs hotter? Pretty sure that's the standard that even the phase changer guys work off of as far as heat goes.

how hot do they run? I know the 955EE chips run idle at 50c.
what is the temp of the room your pc lives in?

Sure, they may idle at 50c, with whatever stock h/s they have on them, but so do a lot of other chips. I'm talking heat production here - the QX6*00 series is the biggest heat producer out there right now.
And, as of this moment, my room is currently at 31C. It's a hot day here in San Diego.

I am talking the same heat production! what is the stock heat from a qx6700 and what is the stock heat from the 955EE???

With proper contact and a well-made WB he is probably going to be getting the temps he claims he does.

I do agree pH but he said his chip is one of the hottest chips made and I can confirm that it is not even close. I know the E6600 puts out 105w of heat so I would say is puts out no more then 110W of heat and the 955EE puts out 130w of heat. I can cool my e6600 with a tec but I don't see the value in it. Lets talk about money and you will see that it is not worth it. IMHO! I would also say if he was running an artic web with the 437w tec at a full 12v and only at full load for a few hrs then he would be 100% on. :D
Oh and besides that I still want to see pics of his setup! I may learn something after looking over his system!
