Yes... This is a very sad event for me...

I actually haven't been folding for two weeks because I am currently at a computer camp with no internet connection at the dorms. I haven't told you this because I've been too lazy to post something, and we only have a few hours of free lab time, which I have been using to do other stuff...

I have been cut off from folding until... August 1st I think... I was getting so addicted to it in my first week.

BUT

I am making up (or trying to make up) for this outrage...

I have two old computer at home. I'm ripping out the mobo and processor and RAM and getting a new processor/mobo/ram. That means I'll have two machines completely dedicated for folding and a third one which is my main computer. If only I could convince my mom to let me put this on her 800 MHz Duron...

Anyway...

I was planning on getting a 1800+ Athlon, a MSI mobo, and some Crucial (?) RAM... I'll be OC'ing the 1800, and I don't really know alot about good fans so I need some advice on a good heatsink/fan combo for my 1800...

If you have any suggestions for me, please feel free to tell them. I'm looking for a very good combo at a low price...

I'll have to do them 1 at a time, because I'll only have about $250 once I get home from camp, but I am going to do it to both machines.

Don't worry we'll welcome you back when you start folding again in August :D

As for your heatsink question a thermalright SK7 heatsink is probably the most economical heatsink for good aircooling and for a fan any 80mm fan will do, obviously the more CFM is pushes the better but depending on where the comp is going to be you may not want the fan to be too noisy (if noise isn't an issue just get a delta with the highest CFM).

SVC has some good prices on Heatsink/fans

GC68 - $4.99 with 80mm fan (http://www.svc.com/newsvcgc3280.html)

SK7 - $19.99 - no fan (http://www.svc.com/thersk7socco.html)

AX7 - $17.99 - no fan (http://www.svc.com/thaxsoco.html)

Been using the GC68's on most of my folding farm, and on my dual rig, I had SK7's the duallie, ASUS 266-d, fit was super tight, So i switched to GC68's on them and only gave up about 4-5C higher temps on 1700xp 1.5volters @ 2350mhz each. and they are handleing it. Load @ 58C, yeah hot for some people's liking, but stable.

Tried their GC69's $7.99, clear fan and 6 lug mounting, Clamps tighter, more tension it seems, But no real improvement.

Computer camp, Geek heaven!!!. didnt have them when i was growing up in the 70's, Not too many computers around either. IF there were, every one had apples.

Wow... That's a nice OC... And 58C is fine for me... I just have to live with those computers giving off that much heat in my room... Which isn't really a problem for me...

Yea, computer camp is fun. Some stupid rules, like last year, kids got internet in dorms, this year, nope... So yea folding is gone till August... But yea, generally fun.
