Hi,

After I decided to play using chilled water (bucket full of big blocks of ice) to cool my system I overclocked it rather high, CPU at 204*13.5 and GPU at 497/378. Full details of my system are in my sig

Heat was not the problem, the CPU was at about 20C and the GPU was still cold to the touch on the back

After running 3dmark 2k3 I got 6842:

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=917020

Not too bad for an AMD, however, if you search for other people beat me with much lower clocked systems.

I ran the benchmarks in a new install of XP with every possible service disabled.

I get 5200 stock with it

Anyone got any ideas how to improve on it? If you go by the clock speed I should be higher up than I am. Any help would be appreciated

Your score looks very good to me, looking at the clock speeds of your card.
3DMark 2k3 is more videocard dependant than 01 is.
So, the higher your card runs, the better the score will be.
Try to cranck the GPU and memory speed up, and I'm sure you can pass the 7k mark.

And, Welcome to Xtreme.

Welcome to XtremeSystems,

I think you can squeeze a few more hundred from your system at that video card clock.

You need to optimize the operating system more so that nothing is running in the background when you benchmark.

Set for best performance in the advanced settings of the video card.

www.tweaktown.com check out xp tweak guide 1 and 2

You can also try tweakxp, find it on google for download.

Are you running most agressive memory timming in the bios?

Did you disable unused stuff for benching? disable everything not needed in bios. USB, floppy, network, sound,...

GL going for 7k

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome :D

I went through all the services getting rid of what i didnt need, there were 11 processes running when 3dmark was running, I don't think its possible to get any lower. I left the BIOS as it was, i shall disable everything next time

I ran the memory at 6-2-2-2 but 5-2-2-2 brought the score down rather a lot

Looking at the clock speeds it should be above 7k, if not near major mav's score but i must be missing something :(

Other than putting AA and AF on performance what else can I try? I saw somewhere that putting the memory on 11-2-2-2 helped on nforce boards?

but everyone benches with aa and aniso off completely usually

AA and AF should be set to App Pref in the control panel, not forced. 3dMark will turn them off on the default settings.

If your score went down a lot at 5-2-2-2 then I suspect your memory can't handle those timings at your fsb and you were getting retry errors. Maybe you're getting some at 6-2-2-2 as well. Try relaxing the timings further, they don't make a great deal of difference to 3dMark03 anyway, it's nearly all down to gfx clocks.
