Hello

What in practic is that MOP in TXVs ?

I have ALCO TXV with MOP ...it's mop -20*C (MOP -20) ...in practic what prons and cons it can give me ?

I plan to use it in cascade 1st stage or in chiller, both on Plate HXes.

Peter

MOP will limit the amount that the TXV will open. In your case if the MOP were set at a much higher temperature, or there was no MOP (no limit to opening) the system would be able to supply high loads to the compressor during the pull down time to reach operating temperature.

If your condensor was sized for the load it's working at, and undersized during the pull down, you would want a MOP to limit the cooling to an amount that your condenser can handle.

The downside is that if the TXV is limiting flow because the temp is above it's MOP, you will be getting a lot of superheat in the suction gas, and that will make compressor discharge, and I suppose the compressor shell hotter than normal. I suppose it's obvious, but a MOP will increase the time it takes to pull down to your operating temperature since it's limiting flow.

I'd bet Sporlan or ALCO has a better explanation on their website.

Hope this helps Peter.

Erik

I usualy consider 100psi differance to be the best range IMO but most will work with 90.

Thanks for answers :)

As I had thought that MOP isn't anything good :(

Well it is good for instances where compressor over loading can be a problem, very good in air conditioning systems, it all pends on aplication and system design, you DO design the systems don't you?
