Was going to pick up a used DFI on ebay, but decided it would be better to get something new. Looks like the best choice is between 3 asus mb. The A8N-SLI delux/premium, the A8N32-SLI delux, and the A8N5X. I'm leaning toward the A8N32

imho a used DFI expert or Ultra-d is much better than any new Asus

MY dfi cfx3200 was the bomb till two dimm slots died. Also anything over 100 is a stretch for a dead architecture like 939. for the price of the deluxe(or there abouts) you can set yourself up with a core 2 or celeron-L system. But if I HAD to pick one of those then it would be the 32 deluxe ONLY if youw ant SLI.

Not really looking to go Intel atm and not going SLI, but I think you'd probably have to go with a top of the line board just to get the best features anyway.

I have the A8N32-SLI Deluxe for one a half year,i am very please with the board and i didn't have any problems, also the board has everything that an overclocker need.

The only problem that i can find is that the board still expencive for a dead socket.

If you decide to get one of those boards make sure it will be revision 1.01 and not 1.01g.

The first one can hit 360-370 FSB and the second one 315-330.

The motherboard revision number is between the CPU and the RAM slots.

Like I said in the other thread, I'm bidding on a new DFI on ebay, so we'll see.
I did find one for $150, it says its a green version. Do you know what that means. Cant find the revision number. Thanks for responding.

why are u going for the nforce 4 the via 880, like the a8v-e deluxe will out preform it and its better than any of the nforce boards excluding dfi

Definatly. I have an Ultra-D that I'd be willing to sell for $90.

I looked at all of the VIA boards that were for sale. The prices were good, but when I looked at the reviews all of them said they had very few OCing options. If you have different info, I'd certainly be interested.

"GreenAsus,
The motherboard and its packaging comply with the European Unionīs Restriction on the use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). This is in line with the ASUS vision of creating environment-friendly and recyclable products and packaging to safeguard consumersī health while minimizing the impact on the environment."

But there is nothing like this under the motherboard overview in Asus site, you can find this on AM2 mobos.

Well, at least it wasn't some barebone thing or something, lol. Sounds safe enough to buy anyway. Thanks

i have an a8v deluxe it has all of the ram settings, all of the voltages, locked pci-agp, teh pci-e version has pci/pci-e lockers, htt multi i cant think of anything missing, also cpu voltage gose up to 2.15 on mine so its got all of the voltage u will ever need on that side

cons, ram voltage only goes to 2.8, only 100,133,166,200 ram dividers, also the settings arnt all in one place ram has its own setup as well has htt multi, and clocks, they are all separated but its easy to find

when u look at via boards teh only 2 good choices are asus and albatron (asus is preferred)

I have an A8V delux, actually, one of the firsts on this forum. Unless you volt modded it or they revised it you cant get that high on the cpu voltage. Yeah, the vdimm was the major drawback, even with a vdimm mod the board would shut down above a certain vdimm, if I remember right. It was quicker than the nforce boards at the time though.

Had an Abit AV8, total POS. MSI Neo2, half POS. The best I had was a Gigabyte, but I fried the mosfets cranking up the 3.3v rail for extra vdimm, lol. Held the WR for 2001se for a short period with the Gigabyte until OPP spanked my butt, lol.

I'm just a little leary of the Via board. The price is quite low, which usually means no one wants them and the reviews at the egg are not that good.

get the cheapest board.
lol my 47dollar s-x board (sux board as i call it)
is limited to 290 fsb
geeze all i needed was 320ish fsb or a 170opty

will the a8n5x do 320+?fsb - or an equivalently priced gigabyte?

i also think that spending too much on 939 is bit of a waste...but on the other hand it has to do what you want it to; anywho at least i was able to reuse some old ddr :lol2:

id like a cheap 939 that would get me the most out of the opty cpu (2.8+GHz), but 200MHz aint worth the fuss of getting another board that is going obsolete anyway imo.

if you intend keeping it for some time it may be worth considering a more expensive board

PhilDoc

Very true with regard to the money situation. I not that concerned about it being obsolete, this is really for my entertainment for the most part. I could have afforded a sweet new intel quad, but the amd's are just more fun imho. I could have gone am2, but I hate the loose settings on the new ram.

Anyway, it's starting to look like I'll be able to pick up the DFI for less than $80 which will give me all kinds of setting to play with.

out of the poll options A8N32-SLI deluxe

The Ripe Punani
08-18-2007, 09:49 PM
For the sake of the poll I'll choose the A8N32-SLI Deluxe, but for Socket 939 which is pretty much dead (unfortunately), you should just upgrade to Core 2 Duo instead.

Thanks for the offer, but I just need the board. I have the memory, an Opteron 185 and a Ultra-120 extreme.

Just to udate, lol. Got outbidded on the Ultra D. $120 plus $15 shipping they can have it, lol. Anyway, did find an SLI-D new for $125 free shipping. From the reviews there's not much difference between this board and the Ultra D. I'll just get that board. Anyway, thanks for all your help.

PhilDoc

Just a little update. Picked up a used Ultra-D on ebay for $76. Should have it by the end of the week. If its the overclocker all the reviews and everyone on here says it is, I should be able to do better than the 3.25G screen I've already posted and Anandtech was able to reach 318 2.5-4-3-7 1T at 2.9v with the same ram I have. That should do me just fine. The seller better not send me a DOA, lol

Anyway, sorry for the poll. Should have included the DFI and some others, but at the time the Asus boards were the only ones I could find still for sale. Thanks for everyones advice. If it wasn't for that I would have spent a lot more and gotten less of a board.

I have a DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert and I love it. However i'm making the move to AM2 (DDR2 is cheaper than DDR) and i'm trying to get rid of my board now.

Keep us posted on how your Ultra-D works.
