Hello,
When I turned on my Mach 2 it started making a grinding noise then fuse blew.
I have replaced the fuse, lcd is live and when it get to activating the fans start and get a banging noise for a approx 20sec then then a bang! blow the fuse.
I have tried to find someone where I live... they just replace thermostats :(
Anyone have any idea what could be up with it as I would like to try/learn how to fix it?
Thanks
Keith

My humble opinion is there is something wrong with the compressor, probable you need a new one. This should be done by someone who has experience in repairing Mach IIs because you also have to refill the unit. It would help a lot to tell us where you live so you can find someone who can repair it for you.

I live in Weston outside Bristol (UK)
It does make quite a distinct sound clapping banging sound.
I could make a sound clip.. Would it cause more damage to it by turning it on again?

If your hearing a banging noise, it must be a bad compressor. Perhaps some one who does repairs in the UK will notice this thread and send yo a PM.
We do have a services section, but I don't think you'll be able to see it until you have 100 post. I would like to get that rule changed so people like you could look for such services. If you read the Phase Section rules at the top of the page you will notice we do not permit people to offer services in this section.

Make the sound clip so we can tell if its f**ked or not.

I'm fairly sure there are lots of uk builders though so you should be ok.

Thanks for your reply's,
I have uploaded a sound clip
http://www.koghopkins.plus.com/Recording.mp3 (http://www.koghopkins.plus.com/Recording.mp3)
The clip is after I press the power button on the front of the unit.
The lights on the rear get to amber the bang is the fuse although not entirely sure.
I will upload some pictures this afternoon :) It looks OK but isn't healthy..
Thanks,
Keith

Sounds like it threw the rod at the end of the clip. That compressor is shot. :cussing:

Thew a Rod does that mean that broke the connecting rod between the piston and the crankshaft?
How much would it cost for a replacement compressor? It uses a Danfoss NL11F

Kog, you can get them at Cold-Ice's shop: www.kaeltetechnik-shop.at
He also has more powerful compressors like the SC10CLX if you wanted improved performance.

It does sound like something may be broke but to me it don't sound right even if there's a broken rod or something like that like i mean in the sound clip u can hear a tap...tap...tap sound but why can't u hear it untill halfway through the clip and if it is a broken rod than whys the tapping sound repeating so slowly? Compressors spin at 3450rpms but if this sound was the rod hitting something it sure as hell wasn't hitting it 3450 times a minute and not only that this tapping sound was a steady sound.
From listening to that sound clip it almost sounds like the compressor was trying to pump liquid which could make that sound we were hearing and would also explain why that sound was steady and slow.

I dont know which builder lives in the UK, but if you dont have any PM yet, look at www.extremcooling.net and the corrsponding shop http://www.kaeltetechnik-shop.at and drop a note in the forum.
The owner lives in Austria (no, not Australia^^), so shipping would not be that tragic. A new NL11 is about 100 Euro, but you will have to have the compressor changed and the unit refilled.

Philipp
