It's been guite a while since I've done any overclocking and just had some quick questions about some new stuff I just bought.
1. Just picked up an Opteron 185, HISS 1950pro 512mb, and a MSI K8N Neo4-F. The chip is very nice OCer. At 1.6v, Ultra-120 Exreme, I able to run Vista experience at 3.187G and could probably take a screen at 3.25G. I realize that hardly speaks for stability, but still very happy. One problem I'm having is that it wont boot at 1T command rate at any speed. I'm affraid its probably the cpu, but hoping its the Mb. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this?
2. Can't seem to find anyway to lock the pci bus. It's over 40 at 3.2G. Dont know if this matters as I've never used a board with this chipset.
3. Is there a program like CodeReds, that you can change the command rate while you're in windows?
Sorry for all the newbie questions. Thanks in advance

dont change the command rate in widows and what ram do u have, unless u have the samsung tccd u wont hit 1t (i think it was the tccd not sure) unless u drop ur ram to 1:1
and on the pci bus u should have a spectum setting that has x:x:x just make sure that the pci bus is set to a divider that will make it between 30 and 40 or 45 if ur pushing it
also what voltage timeings and mhz is ur ram running and what htt is ur cpu

The ram is OCZ platnum pc3200 spd is 2-3-2-5. Was able to get 1T on my FX-55 and a Asus A8V. I'll try the spectrum settings. The voltage on the ram is at 2.65, but I tried the highest I think it was 2.75. have it set to 166 divider, but even at 1:1 and stock setting it wont boot with 1T.

The only option in the bios I could find was for pci-e spread spectrum and sata spread spectrum. The only option that had was downgrade. I set them both to that but it made no difference in clockgen. Here's a little screen shot though

ur pci-e clocks are fine
try setting ur ram timings to 3-3-3-8 1T that what i use for my ram and set it to 2.8V
u have an e6 stepping though so u might not be able to hit 1t i forgot if it was the e3 or e6 but one wouldent do it over 200mhz core, also u might want to up the vlink voltage by .1

Not too worried about the pci-e clocks, the pci at 42 worries me some though, I'll try all of those settings. What about the nf4 voltage? Thanks so much for your help!!!

Yep, must be the cpu, still no go. Well, still gotta like the cpu, hate the memory setting though. Now I'll just find out how much juice I can put though these memory stick to see if I can get things at 1:1. I should have an old OCZ memory booster around here somewhere and then see how far I can get stable

Hate to bump my own thread, but did figure out some things. Looks like the pci buss locks if you boot in at atleast 201. Seem to remember something about that with nvidia chipsets, lol. Didn't help with the OC though. I did some research on the stepping of my cpu and it should get 1T, so it very well maybe the mb. Maybe because its the non-ultra version of the chipset or just because it an MSI. In a couple of weeks I'll try to find an ASUS or DFI. Nice upgrade from the old FX though

Definately the mb, put the FX back in and still no 1T and I know that chip and this memory will do it on the A8V. Also noticed, no dual channel on the memory and both sets I tried can do dual channel. Time for an RMA and put in a bid for one of the DFIs on ebay.
When this is all said and done, might just dust off the LS in the garage and do some serious OCing with the opty

PhilDoc,
What VCore voltage you use to hit 3266Mhz,1.35v that CPU-Z reports in your image?
Thanks.

Yep, its wrong. I was running 1.6v. Seems to be stable at around 3.1G with that voltage. Ran prime 95 x2 for a couple of hours and then got bored so I stopped it. Could have been the memory as well, I was running 1:1 at the time. I'll see how far I can go stable once I get a better board.
Btw, how do you like your A8N32. From your sig it looks like it does very well.

The board is fine,is a very good overclocker,is very stable and i am able to run 1T 1/1 280mhz at 3-3-2-6 my two sticks of Ram.
The problem for me is that i am on stock cooler and if i set the voltage at 1.5v the temps goes over 70°C at moment(ambient is over 30°C)so the best i can do is to hit 3.0Ghz with 1.3v.
I can't really find out what this chip can do if i don't get watercooling.

Thanks for the info, I'll probably pick one up if I don't win the bid I have on a new DFI on ebay. Did manage to find one for $150, which will save me some money. I hate to spend that much, but there just isn't much to choose from.
Yep, the stock cooler isn't horrible, but it wont handle those volts. I have a couple of phase change units that I might try at some point. Will have to have a better mb first. When are you getting water.
Btw, know anything about the A8N SLI-SE. I can pick that up new for $99. Just want something that works, but cheap as possible, lol
