View Full Version : I BLITZed my new retail QX6850 @ 4X5Ghz in the Mini-Cascade

I finally managed to buy a QX6850 here in Portugal , this CPU cost me a fortune - this hobby is becoming really expensive

For a quick test I mount it in my Mini-Cascade with a Asus BLITZ Formula that I'm testing..

The mini-cascade is not at all quad-optimized (drops to near -60º on load) maybe with some more ethylene may improve a little bit, Ricky said needs new capilar for hold better the 4 cores load.

Here is a photo of the retail box in the mini-cascade:

http://pedrorocha.planetaclix.pt/NaMiniCascata.jpg

After a few changes in bios and with not to much voltage here is a 4X4x5 (4 simultaneous Superpi's / in the 4 Cores / @ at 5Ghz) :

http://pedrorocha.planetaclix.pt/QX6850_5000.jpg

I think 4X sub-10 is very possible, the memory timmigs was not optimized, but the the Asus Blitz performance per Mhz ratio seems quite nice in :)

With 1.75v this QX6850 even run Cinebench at 4.900Mhz as you can see:

http://pedrorocha.planetaclix.pt/QX6850_CineBench4900.jpg

Next I will find how much is the max speed that can pass 3DMark2006 in the Blitz with the mini-cascade not recalibrate for Quads..

Tomorrow, maybe I will put it on the EVGA 680i to play my favorite game (3Dmakr2001 of course :) ) with the 8800ultra in SLI

4 cores, low voltage and "weak" cooling. Amazing scores and golden chip :D

Looks like you're having fun Pedro, now time to try it on the 3 stager.

These chips are really something else though.

low voltage and "weak" cooling

well if you call 1.74V on a quad low voltage, I'm not sure what you want to see...I say that heat dispersion is already high enough and hard to control.
My Mach I gives up with dual load and 1.7V just as a comparison...

Even it is not quad-optimized I like that mini-cascade pretty much.
It is just the right cooling for some quick tests before spending any money for LN2.

That chip does really well and I enjoy seeing you hitting a nice oc after the other pedro :D

best regards my friend :toast:

Congrats with the new and good chip and the results, nearly sub 10s 1m SPI with 5ghz is very good. The performance/mhz ratio is very good :D.

Keep pushing it.

OK, in order to play with 8800ultra's in SLI I have to mount this QX6850 in a Nvidia 680i chipset mobo...

I first try with A0 EVGA 680i with Vcore, Vdrop and Vem moded and no go ..GTL enhacements missing for Quad OC, so better forged non-A1 with QX6850's :(

Then I try with a non moded EVGA 680i revision A1 (D00) with no mods that OC's well but have an horrible Vdrop - 1.8v (bios) - 1.75 (idle) - 1.73 (load)

BTW : Could someone please post a better photo of the VCore and VDroop mods for A1 revision that the one that is here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=154897 ???

Anyway here they are the first results in the mini-cascade.

4 Cores run at 5Ghz

http://pedrorocha.planetaclix.pt/QX6850_EVGA_4x5000Spi.jpg

3DMark 2006 run at 4.8 Ghz ..not bad with such high vdrop ;)

http://pedrorocha.planetaclix.pt/QX6850_EVGA_4800_3Dmark06Cpu.jpg

With 2 cores (core0 and core3) only in can run my favorite game at more than 5Ghz.

Some 3DMark action later, preferentially after do the Vdroop mod.

I may even run some PCMark05 with Vista, but Fugger's 1st place is unreacheble with this small cascade ;)

Thank you Nuno, symphy, dinos22 and the rest of people that contribute to this EVGA 680i A1 Vcore Vdroop thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=154897

I do a quick pencil VDroop mod and works like a charm

Before doing this mod : 1.80v set in bios (max) -> drops to 1.74v
Afeter doing the mod : 1.80v set in bios -> rock solid at 1.80v in Bios and Windows :D - as you can see in this image:

http://pedrorocha.planetaclix.pt/QX6850_5100_DropMod.jpg

Now with Droop mod in EVGA680i A1, at 1.80V in the mini-cascade this QX6850 can pass:
- With 2 Cores enabled - 3DMark2001 at around 5.100Mhz :D
- With 4 Cores enabled- 3DMark2006 at 4.850Mhz, altought 1.8v is really to much for the mini-cascade with 4Cores on so have to try lower VCore voltages.

Now is time to find the best multipliers for CPU and memory..

After that, I will put my 2 8800ultras for some 3DMark SLI action ;)

Pedro,

Vdroop pencil works like a charm indeed, had one on my p5n32e-sli and works great...

That 4cores are killing the cascade with that vcore...
ricky's garage is the key :D

Wanna see real 3d action with that config, when i say real is REAL ;)

Congrats on the setup Pedro.

we've got a QX6850 on similar cooling tomorrow hoping to do some 4.8Ghz + clocks :D and some 3D

we can only play with gigabyte 680i for the event but two different boards have been playing up and not even posting :( :( :( :( wish we could get it going as we've got a couple of ultras with dice tubes slapped onto them lol :D

Thanks Vince;)

I don't have any Stryker, but test it with an EVGA 680i A1 and the results seems quite nice;)

Also notice the PWM circuits remains at very acceptable temperatures for Quads :)

It's a very compact cascade (2 compressors) and very silent - almost the same noise levels of a Vapochill.

It uses old Danfoss compressors from Prometeia from the 1st stage and the original VapoLS compressor for the 2nd stage

Uses the easy mounting system of the VapoLS, so is quite good for my hobby since I can change CPU's in less than 1 minute :D

Yep near that with 2 full stock 8800ultras with no mods and a X6800 @ 4.950Mhz.

It's quite possible to have some improvements, since with 2 cores enable the QX6850 put less heat / load on the mini-cascade and should run my favorite game at near 5.050Mhz or a bit more..:D

3 mini cascades :D

last time was full air i assume?

Must be exciting knowing that you can improve your 01 score :D
