Hi guys!
My first post here.
So the problem is the Vista.
I have tried both 32 and 64 bit versions and both of them crash the same way.
After I've done all the recommnded updates and installed all the drivers (Sound & Graphics), then there's about 15 mins and complete freeze, sounds stalling followed by Bluescreen:

I don't know what might be wrong but im suspecting its hardware cause my previous A8N-Sli Premium, Opteron 170 2.6Ghz, 1gb KHX worked 100% stable.
E2160 is rock solid on XP and I don't think that it could be causing any problems..
Im not sure but could it be related to the bios? Or what could be causing this annoying problem?
Thanks!

it's something that has to do with power.
from googling try the following.
disable bios standby/suspend mode.
disable any wakeon lan/ring
disable from anyother power state.
also try to disable windows power managment on all devices in device manager from safe mode .(u hadn't say if it freeze on safe mode).
i think windows is trying to sleep or wake a device which his driver isn't fully compatible or the device itself isn't compatible with vista.
and welcome to XS. ;)

Thanks for fast reply mate.
Are these things in bios? :
disable bios standby/suspend mode.
disable any wakeon lan/ring
disable from any other power state.
try to disable windows power managment on all devices in device manager
How can I disable windows power management on all devices in device manger? I looked there but didnt figure it out, im new with this power management tweaking.
I'll try those tomorrow. Now im out to watch 24 season 6 :)
EDIT:
I went ot bios and discovered that suspend mode was off, but ACPI was on. Do I need to turn the ACPI off?

If you are really "100% stable on XP" but get bluescreens on Vista then you either have a damaged Vista disk or you are doing these installs overclocked or you actually have some kind of memory issues that are corrupting your install. Ignoring the first two possibilities, have you done a long run of memtest? I have run it for up to 2 days before the first errors showed up and that was on a non-OC'd system, and those errors were manifesting as occasional blue screens.
Also, make sure your BIOS settings are all "stock". Do a BIOS reset with the jumper if necessary. Never install an OS with an OC.

HD that im installing Vista on is almost new and ran XP 100% perfectly before Vista. Well I'll try to install Vista without OC tomorrow. But it's quite strange that in my previous AMD build it installed and worked perfectly without an OC.
As for the memtest, I have non OC'd memory as with this mobo you don't have to run memory in synch with fsb so I see no room for mem.erros. And I think that if you don't have any errors in memtest for 2 days then you should be able to use your Vista atleast for many hours.
I'll give a try to the non OC install tomorrow.

So you have been trying to do overclocked install. Never install an OS overclocked. Period.
Either way, ANY errors in memory can hose an OS install. My brother never overclocked anything in his life and his memory just started giving him errors. Has nothing to do with OCing.
And I was talkiing about the Vista install disk, not the HD disk.

Well I installed without OC and it worked fine.
No errors, however I installed plain 7.7 Catalyst driver which has washed tou colors and I wanted normal colors. Then I installed 7.3 Driver with all that CCC crap and BAM Blue Screen!
Then I installed 7.7 back without any CCC and other nonsense and it works now.
But then I looked at the event log. There were warnings about nonimportang things but then I looked at the errors. ACPI was constantly making some errors with PCI lines 2,5 and 6. Then I saw some Unknown PCI device in devices and disabled it. Haven't seen any error logs yet after that.
Shout I disable ACPI in BIOS? Does it controll anything important?

ACPI is (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) so just my thoughts it just helps with power management and stuff (not really sure but that is IMO)

Well I checked and it's still doing errors :|
EDIT:
I decided that im not gonna use this half done product that can't even stay stable and without errors :)
Luckily I have XP in dual boot. Waiting for that promised SP3

It appears to be ATI chipset issue(ICFX-3200).Myselfe and others have/had same issue. Here's AMD response to my question.
Solution
Solved:
(7/6/2007 3:00 PM EDT) Unfortunately, yes, your bsod does seem as though its steming from an outdate chipset driver running on the vista platform. Please continue checking for any further updates or think about downgrading your OS.

Thats very cold of them. Nice caring about pretty new board and its supporting.
I think it wouldn't be so hard to make a Vista drivers for the chipset
Way to go AMD

:ROTF: same thing ATI did to me when the first 64mb videocards came out!!!! no xp drivers and released after xp came out. (or was it 98) either way I messaged them and asked about new drivers. They told me to buy a new board because their newer ones would support it. I payed 500 for that card and was so mad!!!!!! I have never used an ati board again.
