Yeah, I just installed XP-Pro on my new MOBO, It's all working fine but windows says my hard drive is only 127gb.. it's a 250gb Seagate.

How can I fix this ? http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2346/untitledhw8.jpg

XP before SP1 didn't support 48-bit LBA. install SP1 or SP2, or (preferably, to me at least) reformat with SP2 slipstreamed

I have SP2 installed..

Did you install Service Pack 2 after reformatting the drive? Does the disk only come with XP Service Pack 1 installed? I've had a friend have the same error when reformatting and installing Windows with a Service Pack 1 disk.

He formatted the empty space to NTFS and used Partition Magic to merge the two partitions, he didn't have any problems as the hard disk was relatively empty.

I have SP2 installed..

I suggest you go to Microsoft Update to download all updates.

format the HD with the disk that came with the hard drive..all the companies have that fix on the disks..issue solved..:D
A suggestion: I would split that disk(partition) anyway.
Cuts down on defragging time and if you develop a bad sector in one part of the drive you don't lose it all.
If your installing windows on that, set the drive to 3 partitions, a small one, 20-40 gig for windows(C:) then split the rest into 2-100 gig partitions.
1-3 years from now you will thank me for this info when you get a bad sector on C: BUT can still get at all your saved data on the other 2 partitions.
Good Luck.

It's the jumpers. I have a jumper on my 200GB that limits it to 36GB. You seem to have the same issue.

Don't know much about Seagate software, but you could try DiskWizard (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=DiscWizard&vgnextoid=d9fd4a3cdde5c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD ) from seagate main site, to find the rest of your HDD.

Are you could try some tools from "Ultimate Bot CD" made for this purpose. ;)

Ok I had the SAME exact issue yesterday but it a 500gb HD. IF you have sp2 just go to computer admin --> disk mangement and you should be able to see the extra space located there. Just right click the unallocated space and set it as primary, pick the letter you want, do a QUICK format and bam you should see it.

Yep, it's the Windows XP SP1's fault. It only supports upto 127 GB no matter how big your drive is.

Like the other guy has said, installing a slipstreamed WinXP SP2 will work.

Or,

Since you have already installed SP2 on windows, find some programs like PartitionMagic. You can then stretch your current partition to full 250GB without damaging the current data. Don't think the free trial will work. May have to purchase it. Or, try finding other freebee programs that will do this.

Or,
Like the other guy said wipe out everything and create 2~ 3 partitions and install windows.

u can go to disk management and portion the rest of your drive that over the 127 mark

Download Gparted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/) and expand the section that hasn't been touched. Gparted is free also :)
