What kinda wall is this? All was going so so good with G0 Stepping....
I have been upping the overclock on my g0 today and it has been going flawless up until now. Lemme show you all the problem, I am not sure it is CPU related as it comes so abruptly. All cores under 50C at load.
Q6600 G0 Stepping
2.40 @ Stock volts
2.60 @ Stock Volts
2.80 @ Stock Volts
3.00 @ Stock Volts
3.20 @ 1.275V
3.30 @ 1.30V
3.40 @ 1.325V
3.50 @ 1.350V
3.50+ is not booting no matter what Voltage I am trying. It won't post, but does something similar to the famous DS3 Cold Boot Problem.
What do you all think the problem is? My Enhance 500W PSU, My motherboard, The Bios (F12), or the G0's are binned to the extreme.

Can you be more specific about your settings?
Fsb, multiplier and so on. I think it's your mobo.

As I said in your other thread...
You are one lucky SOB
Core Voltage: 1.100V-1.372V

p.s. post the batch number on your packaging of your chip please

Usual Motherboard settings are:
CPU Multiplier X9
FSB failing speed 400-405
RAM 2.0xmultiplier 2.0V
FSB +.1
G(MCH) +.1
I have tried upping the FSB voltage and G(MCH) voltage to +.2, but it is not making a difference. The ram is good up to DDR1050 and I have it running DDR800 so that is not a problem either.

Retail G0 not even close to ES G0, so all this excitement is useless. Thats why i just order a Xeon 3210 for 250 shipped :)

so far seems like the retail Q6600 G0 stepping are not going over 3.5ghz

you probably need 1.52 or 1.55 vcore to get 3.6Ghz. try using 8x451 to get 3.6.

yah Ill second that.. give it a try.. ;)

Here's one stable @ 3.6GHz with 1.38v.....I'm sure more will do the same.

See, his voltages seem fairly consistent with mine until I hit the wall. I am now really believing to think it is not the CPU.

That is a great overclock...and at such low voltage too.

I truly believe we have been taken by Intel with there Cherry hand out ES Samples to build hype. But still even at 3.0-3.2ghz Quad Core is a total steal at $300.00!

Isn't he using a P5K D? The P35 shipset seems to work better with the quads than the P965. Also, you may just have a bum chip when it comes to OC.

Prolly mobo limited there, only way to find out to put the cpu in another mobo with eg like suggested a P35 chipset...
Did you try to drop the multi 6X eg and see if it boots then at 400plus FSB

And there you have it. The problem is that we will see a lot more of these bum chips i would wager.

well 3.4-3.5 quadspeeds ain't that bad on a 965 mobo and surely not on those volt's

I'm sure its your board. My B3 will run 3DMark06 & 32Mb Pi all day on my P965-S @ 400 X 9 1.45v @ load. 400 X 9 will not boot with the same chip & memory on the Abit IN9 32-Max or EVGA 680i T1. Yet I can run 445 X 8 on the EVGA but not 450 X 8. I have a DFI 680i coming today to test this issue further. If you have another board try it. I expect it will take a P35 board to find the true limits of my chip.

By the way... you have the EXACT same stepping as XtremeTiramisu does in aformentioned thread: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=152722
Because of this I am really skeptical you are hitting a wall with the chip itself.

Also, I did a quick calculation on your systems power, not including extras like fans and pumps, and you are over 400W draw with a quad at 3500mhz and 1.35v, plus your video card and other parts listed. Maybe your 12V rail is at its limit even. Either that or I would agree with the suggestions to try a P35 motherboard. The stepping you have has already showed very good results, so it is unlikely your chip is a dud.
P965 doesnt really like FSB with a Quad. Also, once a chip hits its natural headroom, every % increase in MHz after that needs the same % increase in voltage assuming the cooling isnt the bottleneck

I got my kill-a-watt meter and I have plenty of headroom on the power supply. So, looking into other factors I found voltages to be one heck of a problem with the DS3. The p965 seems to suck bad at high clocked quad cores.
My bios voltage 1.475V...nets a windows actual voltage of 1.42V, and on load it drops to 1.33V. I think this perfectly explains why I am non passing orthos, but everything else. It is pulling too much power than the motherboard was designed for with a quad-core.
