Initial E6850 Impressions - L722A241
I have this chip running at 11idle on 1.35volts and 25-30 load
this chip runs extremely cool and does 3.6GHZ on stock voltage, I need 1.37v with 3.7ghz
I just tested stable at 3.8ghz at 1.41 with OCCT
Orthos test comes next
heres just a small initial screenshot and yes i know this isn't completely stable but I like starting off with OCCT before Orthos

11 idle? Is your loop hooked up to a fridge? :p:
3.6 stock voltage is mighty impressive.

Is impossible to get such temps...no ? How could it "really" be running at 11c ? Your room should of been at about 7c or so... You can live in such temps ?
Anyway, nice results for sure!

I just plugged in an E6850 into my system, and I too saw 11C temps at idle (24C ambient).
It would seem that these CPU's must have a slightly different electrical specification for the thermal diode, 'cos it looks to me like they're under-reading by around 16C or so.
Having just plugged mine in, I was able to go straight to 4.0GHz @ 1.45v, but not Orthos stable. Orthos stability only comes at 1.51v, and even then I suspect that it might really be my chipset cooling that's holding me back. Man, is that NB heatsink hot or wot?!
Am using a Gigabyte GA-965SP-DS3P board, so not exactly top-end gear to start with.

Mmmm gorgeous UFO there Grinch :) I like the wood\trees in the background as well!
I'm getting 40c idle on CPU with almost the same set-up as you... And thats reading with Asus probe and Bios. Now, coretemps shows 10c lower on both cores. I never knew which won to trust... I probably should trust coretemp since i have a great WC set-up and 40c idle would be damn stupid for 1.4250v on that chip. And i think coretemps reads temps directly onto CPU's die without going through mobo. And, whit that same exact CPU, on my P5W DH i had in the past, i was getting around 28c idle with 2 X19s in crossfire into loop.
Oh well!

Reduce your vcore to the minimum, reduce the mhz to the minimum you possibly can. Unplug the computer, allow it to reach room temp in a closed room. After 1 hour or so boot up, immediately go into bios and check the bios temp against acutal using an accurate temp meter. You can gradually move the vcore/cpu speed higher and see how the bios temp relates to it; repeating the process. This way you can get a general idea of where your bios stands. It's not the most accurate way but you have something for comparison.
Be carefull with reducing vcore too low as with on my Lanparty/opty 170 anything below 0.925v sometimes caused constant reboots and 2x corrupted my raid array.

The clocks so far looks very promising for the new G0 E6850.
Looks like a 4Ghz C2D and a 3.6Ghz C2Q can be the champion in its own field :)

Temps are not true. Think about it. How can something that's generating heat (even at idle) be cooler than room temperature?
Xilikon
07-26-2007, 05:29 AM
Just get CoreTemp 0.95 and it will report the temps accurately. You can also add 15C to the reported temps and you will get a more realistic temp.

I use Everest Ultimate and it seems to more accurate since I looking at the same temp in bios screen writing this from my laptop. I am currently using a Asus P5K3 Deluxe motherboard with a Thermal SI 128 on the processor. So my bios is wrong as I am at 3,8ghz with 1.43v. and my temp in bios screen says 36C as it does with Everest Ultimate when in windows. TAT also reads temps at 33C in windows. So you are now saying I am at 50C+ on idle as core temp reports and TAT, Everest and the bios are wrong.

Yeah I got the same temps at idle and just had a giggle. I already have a Quad so I needed something else to play with.:) E6850 (L722A241) I have only just installed this but it looks promising. 3.8 @ 1.45 vcore, ran small FTT's for 10 minutes max temp was 45 deg core temp then 4.0 @ 1.5 vcore not stable failed after 3 minutes, core temp 55.deg. Running mixed ram probably doesn't help but like I said it looks promising and some tweaking may result in stable.

My 6850 isn't too impressive. At least not on the Gigabyte P35 board I have. I'm beginning to wonder if it's the board as 3 cpus now have under-performed in the oc arena in my opinion.
3.6ghz at about 1.375v but no higher despite jacked volts on air.
I need a better P35 board. Too bad asus wants $230 for a good deluxe board :(. I'm going to try the MSI I think and then the vanilla Asus P5k

I have the same FPO/Batch and the best I can do on aircooling is 3.85ghz@1.46v on a ThermalRight SI 128. If I try 3.9ghz I would need more than 1.56v. and gets unstable.

I have not been able to get past 3.6GHz with reasonable vcore with my E6850. I had to give 1.55v just to be able to boot at 3.8GHz but wont run stable, and it's not a heat problem. I am stable at 3.6 w/ 1.41v so it looks like I'll stay there 24/7.

Sorry to ask what's the coin mod??
you put a dime/penny underneath the X hold down thing of the thermalright ultra 120 and it gives better contact between the hold down and actual heatsink
I am using water (PA 120.3) dtek fusion and getting idle temps as well around 14C with room temp 24C. I bought a microtemp MTPRO IR therm, and did Unclewebb's test from previous thread. Low volted and underclocked, and at idle, coretemp read 10C, IR gun to back of my CPU read 26C (with D-tek fusion unscrewed, held in place by me, but slid out of way) with room temp 24C.
If I had three hands I would have taken some pics and tried to rev up with hand held fan for load measurements, but that alone satisfied me that temp was off about 15C (IR gun +-1C), so like previous post, I just put +15C into speedfan. But I also watch accurate DTS in coretemp .95.
Only other issue, is there a temp gradient from actual core to back of CPU. When Penryn gets here, If I can remove the backing and leave the chip functional for testing (?drill a hole), I am going to gun the core of my E6850 and back of CPU at same time at idle and load. Spent too much time reading not to know. That I will take pictures of and post (have to coax my wife to helping). That of course assumes the Penryn will be a better chip that is worth upgrading to.

Well this is only 20 minutes of testing but it is seriously hot here right now and room temp is 30c outside 34c.:( Too hot to do OC tests IMO. I was playing around in the background while under load and it seems quite stable. Will resume testing when it cools off.
