I did my first Triathlon (half iron-man) on sunday and did very well. Overall time was 5 hours 35 minutes. You can check the stats here:

My name is Rob Smura.
I'm currently training for two more, one half iron and the other an Olympic distance tri. By this time next year, I'll be in the top 10 of my age group. I was 27th in my age group this time.
Hopefully, they'll have pictures up soon.

No, never. I may do it as a civilian though. A friend of mine that I train with has done it. How did you know I was a Marine?
Semper Fidelis Devil Dog! I know a lot of Marines who wouldn't know devil dog in German!

I think you've mentioned it a long while ago. Plus Dave has referred to you as as one IIRC. ;) Even still, you still sport the Medium reg HC and you're a proficient shot - no brainer :ROTF:
We were taught the German saying back in boot (Belleau Woods)- they dont teach that anymore? Right up there with the bird, ball and hook or the general orders...
Theres a word for Marines who dont know their history...;)
Semper Fidelis Leatherneck!

They still teach it but most don't remember or weren't paying attention during that "school circle".

The saying, "your either going to get smarter or stronger" comes to mind. :ROTF:

I remember that saying well. I meant they don't remember it being out of bootcamp for X number of years. True about not paying attention though. We had one guy fall asleep in the auditorium during one training session and the Staff Sergeant threw a 12" shell (read projectile is 12" in dia.) at the guy. That thing was someting like 30 lbs of brass! What a comotion that made with marines jumping out of the way as it hit the floor right in front of sleeping beauty's desk and smashed into him. Scared the hell out of me at the time but pretty funny now!

Thats great to hear. I've always wanted to attempt a triathlon of some sort. I have ran for an hour straight at a 7:30 mile pace, and am in decent shape to complete in other fields. What did your include? Biking, Running, Swimming??

LOL. We musta had the same DI's - he threw a 105 casing... And they always have those classes after lunch. Its a miracle everyone didnt go into a coma.
I still dont understand how someone forgets that stuff. With all the CG inspections, and BC pre-inspections, CC pre-pre-inspections, UC, SNCO, NCO pre-pre-prep , not to mention NCO school, or meritorious promotion boards and MCI classes - I could have Alzheimer's and not forget. Every unit I went to was in some stage of preperation for that crap. By the end, I had an entire duplicate issue - one to wear and one to inspect.

Now SS, you know that having inspection uniforms seperate from your "issue" was "illegal". Well, maybe not illegal, but frowned upon anyway.
Yeah, what was up with those classes after lunch? Stuff 2000 calories into a guy and stick him in a warm, dark room at a desk. Only one thing could come of that. What fun!

Which MCO would that be? ;) I believe the only order that pertains was relevant about requiring "undo expenses" from your troops or something to that effect. But it didn't stop you from getting gigged on scratched brass etc, which was still serviceable. It also didnt obstruct the purpose of the inspection as the gear was serviceable, and indicative of "readiness"
If it was frowned upon it wasn't in any unit Ive ever been in, from "V" to "G", and while they would not require you to replace serviceable issue, the effect was it would behoove the voluntary replacement. There's more than one way to skin a cat... ;)
