im making a new home entertainment/gamer pc
i am buying all of the parts from newegg
i am on a budget also of $3000
but im having trouble deciding what cpu cooler i should get
so far i have found the scythe infinity and great deal for performance
but the thing is that im getting a stacker 832 case with a striker extreme mb
and ive been doing a lot of research on if the scythe infinity will fit in the case
without getting in the way of the fan bracket
if it does i would like help on finding a good cpu cooler that will fit
btw i know that the 1st fan on the bracket wont fit with a big cpu cooler
i dont mind that happening i would jst like it to fit inside without any obstructions thank you for your concern guys
im building 2 new computers so that i can "update" my old comps with have served me well

my system specs with the scythe heat sink problem is:
stacker 832
striker ex mb
c2d e6600
mushkin pc-6400 extreme performance ddr2
2x MSI 8800 Ultras they are a bargain at newegg at about $600 each
silverstone st1000 PS 1000 watts
WD 150gb raptor hdd with that poly something crystylline glass view
Samsung Spinpoint T series 500 gb hdd
7x silverstone fm121 fans
plus lots more

believe it or not this build is under $3000
ive done a lot of research in finding the best system for my budget
and this is what ive come up with
im going to build one later for my brother and itll be pretty cool too
his is going to have a sub $2000 price tag with a 8800 ultra in it

i would appreciate any help thanks a lot
and when im done with it im going to post the video build on youtube
and ill put the link here it might take 2-4 weeks cause im a bit busy at the moment thanks again

The only really good heatsink you can get is the Enzotech Ultra-X if you want to use the 4x Side Fans mount. You *might* get away with using the larger Tower Coolers if it gets mounted where one of your side fans is at. For me, this was a problem, so I had to switch to a much smaller heatsink to use the side fans.

Thermalright ultra 120 extreme.....tuniq tower 120, zalman 9700, enzotech ultra 120 are the top coolers money could buy........for air cooling that is.

SP33DFR34K: i dont mind if i cant use the fourth fan above the cpu socket
but i would like to keep the other 3 that are left thank you for your help

GAR: thank you for your list of cpu coolers i think im going to use either the
scythe infinity or the tuniq tower either one theyre both good for OCing

ill be getting ready for the build in the following week when i get settled

thanks again

I would get 2 8800 GTX's and overclock them, rather than 2 Ultras. Sounds like a waste of money to me.

Also now is definetely a bad time to buy an E6600, for more than one reason.

get a E6850 over the E6600, there G0, they clock better :)

i think i might hold on with the e6600 and go for a e6300 to fill in the missing cpu
yeah the e6850 is coming out soon and itll be a heck load better buy than the x6800 thank you for your help save me some time and money

the ultras may seem like a waste but i think the price on them now
are no different from an overclocked gtx a few weeks or month ago
cause im gettting 2x MSI ultras for $600 each which is the cheapest now
and they both have a $20 mail in rebate which i doubt ill get back lol
i think they are worth it for the time being plus im getting a 46" samsung to match so thatll my home entertainment room will be complete cant wait
but seriously $600 for a ultra is pretty darn cheap ill stick with my decision on that one but as for the cpu ill wait for the e6850 or one of the native quads
and jst still with some lower models which arent that bad either

thanks for your help everyone cant wait till i get the money so i can start this build =)

If you want to save a little bit more money you can get an E6750, that will probably run $80 less than the E6850. With that $80 you can go invest in a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme ;) Personally, I think the E6750 is the new sweet spot (actually the $183 price point has always been the sweet spot). From preliminary results, most of them seem to scale just fine, as long as you have the board.
