I know there are tons of monitor choosing threads especially on the 24" ones, but basically I am looking for a size in between 24 and 30". I was going to wait for a new format to come out think SED/OLED, but I know these aren't going to be coming out anytime soon and I am pretty much fed up with my crappy monitor and low res... Thing is I'm not sure where to start, so far I have sort of settled on the Eizo HD2441W (http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/hd2441w/index.asp) which isn't really available in UK as of yet. Tempted a little by the Dell 2707FPW but don't want it because it doesn't have HDMI... 30" is too big and I don't want to have to get CF/SLI (I REALLY HATE THE IDEA OF MULTI CARD CONFIG!) just because of my monitor.
So really looking for a monitor which has the following qualities:
- greater than or equal to 1000:1 contrast ratio
- greater than or equal to 400cd/m2
- resolution of either 1920x1080 or 1920x1200
- screen size of between 24" and 30"
- money is not an issue...
Thanks :)

Don't shop by the specs, contrast ratio, brightness, response time etc can all be measured in different ways and can vary wildly between monitors even if they report the same numbers.

well, you pretty much have to look at them with your own eyes, let that be the judge..... its hard, i know, because lots that you may want to see are only available online....
the other thing is to read other users reviews. thats about all you can do.

The 24" + Dells usually get good user reviews, i've been looking at upgrading myself and the Dell monitors look very tempting ! :yepp:

Shame is that the Dells don't have HDMI support which is a must for me :( really I need component and HDMI support...
I fell in love with my first sight of the Samsung 244T and just had to have it even tho it came with a hefty price tag. 24 inches of goodness 1900x1200 resolution, excellent colors and fast enough response time for some late night FPS games.

What is the finish on the Samsung SM-244T? And if anyone knows the finish on the BenQ FP241WZ aswell that would be great.
Thanks all for your input soo far!

ive got a Samsung 226BW (22" 2ms widescreen), with a SyncMaster 940B (19" non-widescreen) next to it for desktop overflow, and to watch esports movies/streams at the same time while browsing the web :P
it rocks!
gona sell it though when sed comes out
that technology will seriously KICK ASS
What is the finish on the Samsung SM-244T?
Im not sure I understood the previous, lol. But if you mean is the panel finish glossy or not on the 244T, i'd say it's in between really. Not nearly as glossy as some are, NEC for example mut it's not quite a basic finish either...dunno really, you should see it in person. All I know is that I can spend hours in interfacelift.com etc. watching high res pictures. Simply because they look so darn stunning. Other things that lured me into getting this was the amount of inputs so you can easily hook up other devices to it consoles, SAT Tv, dvd etc. and with the PIP function you can even watch Tv while fragging away ( like u need to watch Tv while gaming :D ) but you can.....

Thanks Hewi that was basically what I meant, is it glossy or not :). I'll check out the NEC monitor as well, so basically my list as of now is:
- Samsung SM-244T (or even SM-275T)
- NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi
- BenQ FP241WZ
Hmm choices choices choices...

absolutely. i found 27 inch a bit big, so i scaled back to 24, got a fp241wz, and have been happy with it ever since. if your going 24 inch, i can tell you one thing: fp241w/z > 2407.

Damn you people....damn you all to hell. You've put me on the 24" bandwagon now. After I get my new rig built I'm gonna be in the market for a monitor. Originally I just wanted the 22" BenQ with HDMI, but now, of course, I find myself yearning for that full HD resolution.

Once you go 1920x1200, you never go back.

1 vote here for the BenQ FP241W
I don't have it, however I have been looking around a bit myself over the past month and this seems to be the best one out there.
The lads over at widescreengamingforum.com praise this thing.

well after much deliberation I ordered the FP241WZ, if I don't like it I can always send it back and get the SM275T or something but lack of HDMI turned me off...

If it isn't too late, cancel the WZ and order just the FP241W and save the $.

why???

There's no differences between the panels AFAIK. One's just more expensive for no apparent reason.

No, the WZ is different. They added a "black-frame-insertion" feature that you will probably not end up using because you won't like it. They also charge almost $100 more for it. Another review I read said the panel was different too and the color (after calibration) was different between the two monitors.

Does it have to be an LCD?
The best you can buy for CRT is what I have in my sig: Sony GDM-FW9012 or FW900 (same thing) 24" Widescreen CRT. I know it weighs about a ton (100lbs to be exact) but if you aren't going to be moving it around much who cares?
I bought mine (sold as a refurb'ed) over a year ago...made in 2001 and it's still running flawlessly.
