finally have some time get my hands on Xeon system.
spent lots of time on pin VID mod and achieve these results.
will try vmod for SM X7DA8 and bench under cold later.

You were tied down ? and still doing overclocks, great job as usual mate
will make us drool all over again...

...You know what he meant
Pretty impressive speed with 8 cores!
Hey Victor, do you think this is the best board for v8 clovertown?
Does it have all the necessary settings in bios? or maybe u still had to use clockgen or memset?
How bout give us some bios shots
Good job as usual victor

man 8xcores at such high clocks
you're going to get arrested for that man.........surely that's illegal :D

now they need a board with SLI, to get some serious 3dmark scores especially with cpu score of around 8k!

Wow, that is a really impressive system you have there. I bet that system would fold like crazy with over 30GHz of processing power.

Holy crap! What are you going to do with all that power? I never knew SuperMicro boards could hold stable overclocks like that. If it isn't too much to ask, could you provide some coretemp temps please.

2 DIMMs is far from optimal. You need 4 since the 5000x chipset is using a quad-channel memory controller

Very nice XEON rig, the mobo does rock to hit that bus speed.
If you can run a cinebench that would be nice to see.

actually, not any overclk option except cpu multi from 6~10 and pcie=100/133 for u to choose.
memset seems dont support x5000 chipset also.
intel white paper for x5300 series must be wrong in VID section.
seems I should get more memory to run 4*channel interactive to improve performance. hope it can reach same clk then.
Cinebench, no prob, will try tonight :D

Hi Victor,
How are you changing the FSB with no overclocking options? You really must drop a high flying Ultra (preferably LN2) on this board when you get a chance.

He's using systool..First PLL controller on the list works with this board.
Now this is my kind of thread! Go Victor!

Nice Victor.. got a wattage measuring meter handy ? would be nice to know how much wattage such a system pulls from mains :D

hmmmm....can't stop playing with the machine.
as Dave said, put my hands on it just like stepping on a 500hp car :D
great thx to Supertalent...their FB-Dimm really rocks !!!
have u ever seen FB-866 ? :D here is it.

Victor: I think you just totally blew away the cinebench record.
Previous best I was able to find was a 16 core-8 cpu Opteron 880 that posted a score of 2664 and Kaz-N was very close to that on his dual X5350 on water at 3789..
Congratulations!

So I'm assuming the board mods are needed for the overclock?
This is one hell of a crunching system.
Edit: I looked up the price of this board on Newegg. Even though there are only 5 reviews, everyone had bad things to say about the board. It keeps failing for everyone. I'm assuming the tech skill of someone who buys this board with expensive ram and cpus must know a bit more than the typical braindead Newegg reviewer.
I hope some more stronger stability boards follow b/c I would love to make this my main system and insane cruncher.

I don't think he's modded the board yet, just increased volts to the cpu's.:D
Incredible numbers..and I think your going to see over 4000mhz before he's done.

MM, I remember you talking about maybe getting some SuperMicro boards or you already have some. So with those boards you can't overclock the FSB?

I have essentially the same thing here that Victor is using.
I have the X7DAE board and he has the X7DA8. Very minor differences:
X7DAE:
http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon1333/5000X/X7DAE.cfm
X7DA8:
http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon1333/5000X/X7DA8.cfm
No, only way to OC the FSB is with clockgen inside systool.
You BSEL mod the chips from the stock 2667/8mb/1066 to 3000/8mb/1333 and then go from there with systool.
10 Multi on these cpu's so there's room to play but need added volts above 3100-3200mhz.
I use the 9 multi with memory set at 350.79 for 3157 on air.
Now we see what they can do in the hands of someone with good skills.:D

Wow! How much did the motherboard and both quads set you back all together? Are these SuperMicro boards more expensive than the average board?

XEON Converts Unite :D Dave got me hooked on these things too. Dual quads are awesome but they do have some drawbacks. The boards are pricey (£250 for an X7DAL-E (an ATX sized workstation board) in the UK, they use FB-DIMM memory (not so OC friendly, runs hot too) and there are no OC options in BIOS, its all gotta be done with software OC tool and hardware volt mods.

i couldnt agree more with that!! the ones we use at work (samsung) run really hot ...
on a side note, on the samsung if you look at the center of the heat spreader it looks like the .... *shudder* goats... (i cant say the rest) man. anyone notice that?
Yea, same as emerica, i also want to know what's the best board for dual socketted clovers. I terms of performance-stability and also overclokability. Been searching for the last 2 months for the perfect V8 mobo. Just because of my curiousity tho.
Sorry 4 my bad english

A lot of people have done well with the Supermicro X7DAL-E or the Tyan Tempest i5000XT. We've yet to see anyone volt mod the boards/cpus and really go for it. As a result we've been limited to below 400MHz FSB (mainly) due to stock NB voltage of 1.5v (this also feeds the AMB chips on the FB-DIMMs, another possible cause of the low bus speeds), stock CPU Vcore and a Stock RAM chip voltage of 1.8v.

thx dave, think I'm still a idiot in server hw if w/o ur help, u lead me to the fun area :D
As we can't have more vcore, and fsb limited, I think -60c can push the system to the limit, about 4.2Ghz benchable.
maybe u will see some nice num this weekend.
I'm about to pull those 16cores down on hwbot though it's a very hard job :(

is the system and those benchmarks even really tapping into that 2nd cpu ?
i see obviously cinebench is but what about other benches.
i think 2x quad core zeon just about outa remove the bottleneck for 8800 GTX SLI dont ya suppose ;) hell even 1 8800 should be running full throttle now.
god i wanna see ANY 3dmark results.
come on Vic do some 3dmark 01 or something :)
its too bad its all slowed down by hard drives. man you'd have to have the fastest SCSI drives on the market to make it worth while.
that system makes hard drives feel like my Stewie icon in my sig.

Very impressive results, especially with those Super Talent/Samsung FB-DIMM's which aren't that expensive for server memory.
