It's free but it requires HL2 on your steam account.

I gave it a quick try today and it's not too bad. I'll have to fire it up again later and see if I can figure out the finer points with objectives etc but it plays pretty well. Worth the download imo.

My brother has it and it looked ok. I'm going to get him to copy it to my pc over the network later probably.
He was actually at a LAN on Saturday and was talking with one of the guys who made the game.

IMO, its the most amazing objective based mp game i've seen. the realism is unmatched. beautiful graphics, excellent game play. bugs seem to be getting a lot of attention from the developers as well as community feedback.
my only issue with it so far, is when i join a server, most people have no idea what they are doing, and they don't listen to the commander so they don't learn.
they complain about being killed so easy, they complain about not having navigation, they complain about not having live kill count, they complain about recoil, blah blah blah. it all goes into the realism which is what makes the game great.

Coming from being a CSS Dust_2 fiend I have to admit Insurgency is a huge change. I honestly like the game except for the single issue of not having a map. I know the devs were pushing for realism so I'm not expecting a mini-map with all the positions of my allies, simply a damn road map so I know the general location of where I am fighting. Even a crude hand drawn map would suffice, not knowing where I am is very frustrating. Did I also mention that griefers abound on every server? Too easy for them to have their fun.

i dont' know how US troops in Iraq find their way around, but maybe whatever types of maps they use, or GPS possibly could be added in? could be just as real. current compass that's used is good enough for me. if you have a commander that knows what they are doing, then you'll always know where to go by looking at the compass.

Well im loving the game at the moment, about the map it would be nice to start with but if you play the game enough you will learn all the maps and capture points anyway. The only downside is when the commander is occupieed by someone called Grunt who doesnt have a clue how to set orders, but you got to love the 1 shot kill ;)
