No, I don't think they will put on an X-Fi chip, it would be killer though.
What is very special about this motherboard is the support for both DDR2 and DDR3. That's 6 slots, 2 for DDR2 and another 4 for DDR3.
Furthermore, instead of 2x PCI-E 2.0 16x slots they've also added 2 extra PCI-E 8x slots.
Furthermore, the cooling is surprising, it are just plain heatsinks. No heatpipes lollercoasters like they did on the P35 Platinum.
Here are some pix I found on some Eastern European website (http://www.3dnews.ru/news/computex_2007_yarkie_novinki_so_stenda_msi/).

So why a new chipset so fast...most people don't even have P35 yet...

P35 is simply the successor of P965, with some added features like a new southbridge, DDR3 support and support for the upcoming 45nm Intel processors. Like P965, Intel puts this in the Mainstream-box.
But the Enthusiast-box is now filled with the old 975X. So, after many years the 975X will be replaced with the new P35 derived high-end chipset X38. It also features 45nm support, DDR3 support and the new southbridge. In addition, it also has 16x-16x Crossfire, PCI-E 2.0, enhanched overclocking and much more.
I'm very excited to see if the X38 will live up to it's expectations and, of course, the predictable price difference with the P35.
I'm still trying to choose between the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R and the new MSI X38 Diamond for my next 'future-proof' build. We'll just have to wait untill someone gives us some benchmark- and overclocking-results, so we're able to see if the X38 chipset is worth the wait and the money.

Are combo memory boards a good idea? A lot of the ones in the past haven't been so hot with respect to overclocking and performance...

There won't be an X38 Platinum, it's just the X38 Diamond with Realtek 7.1 HD Audio. Get that with an X-Fi card. If it's worth the price difference with the P35 I would go for it.
However, do you see the motherboard on the left of the X38 Diamond? That's the P35 Diamond and it does have an X-Fi Chip onboard and an IP Telephone Card included. Too bad it's DDR3 only and it does have the lollercoaster-cooling. Read more about it here. (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/06/05/computex_2007_pre_show_tour/8)
Well, regarding combo motherboards. The only thing that you can find is the info on the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R and that one seems to be performing very good for the price.

So far I'm not convinced anyone needs more than P35. Those that do will be in the 1 percentile. We'll have to wait and see how they do.

Multi-GPUs need it, or at least might want it as the 975x is old and if it has OCing ability comparable to the P35 as well as DDR3 (yeah its expensive and not yet mainstream) I would be looking forward to it if I was into multi-gpu.
