Well im making monster pc, its not slow and well the price is astronomic big for me but i will spend it :)
You might say im grazy but i guess im grazy, next some components.
- ASUS L1N64-SLI WS
- 2 x AMD Athlon 64 FX-74 Windsor 3GHz Socket F (1207 FX)
- 8Gb Mushkin DDR2 1066, 996562 (2 4Gb kits)
- 2 x WD Raptor 150Gb , 2 x WD Caviar SE16 750Gb
- 2 x EVGA GeForce 8800Ulta 768MB SuperClocked + 2 AquagraFX 8800GTX Waterblocks
- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite 7.1 SoundCard
- PLEXTOR 18X DVD±R DVD Burner
- 2 x ePOWER EP-1200P10 1200W PSU
- Antec Performance One P190 Case
- TRIPP LITE SMART5000RT3U 5000 VA 4000 UPS
And well i also buy watercooling for this system but i have included it price so, no worryes going over 10000e :)
If you have succestions before order goes, put a post and ill try take advantage if they are enought good.
Btw i dont have any idea how i would put Single-stage to those 2 cpu's, vapochill's evaporator hose is too short so i might need buy another one and mod em.
EDIT : Changed 4 8800GTX's to 2 8800Ultras since Quad'SLI is not going to work.

Get a QX6700 + 680i.
Quad SLI doesn't work because it isn't supported.

Well if it doesnt work i sell those 2 additional 8800GTX's cheap to someone :)
And im in for 2 dual/quad-core cpus in same mobo so no way to turn me around in that question :D
Only thing im wondering is how the hell im going to get 2 single-stages running for this system

Swiftech's website says you can fit an Apogee GT on Socket F.
rintamarotta
07-09-2007, 09:36 PM
Yeah if it comes out as Socket L (1207FX).
And this mobo have support for Dual and Quad-Core CPU's so why not if it comes out as Socket L (1270FX).
And yeah i really hope this will be machine that eats intel as dayly food.

if you are buying that custom made by someone, itll cost around $8000.... it's nice but its wayyyyy overkill.
You could get:
2 2900xt 1gb for crossfire, intel bad axe 2, q6600, x-fi fatal1ty , silverstone op 1000 , 2 150gb raptors in raid0, 24" lcd for half the price

I suggest you buy another mobo...there is quite a lot of talk about their business practices over at speak freely section. Don't support company that treats their customers like sh*t!! I don't know but maybe DFI has some dual socket mobos or tyan or somebody else. My 2 cents.

Its going to be a server after few "months" of testing and figuring out how hardcore new FX-74 prosessors are, and well getting to see how fast it performs in Games..
1) working budget
2) What is the rig going to be used for?
1) About 10000euros

I agree on the two X2900XT 1GB part.
Although they are hard to find..
Also, are you sure you want to spend all your money on ONE pc?
Why not spilt it so your high tech, but not bleeding edge..
I know I'd rather be High tech in 8 months then be bleeding edge in 4 then medium in 4...
You know what I mean?
regarding the single stages, I think most of the nordic guys( finland, sweden, etc) ordered them from polish guys ( piotres, lukexe, etc). just browse the phase change section and check who is the one for U.
Personally I like very much ssilencers parts.
Cheers and have a happy building :toast:

Its not daydream, its reality, i dont much care if it actually eats intel or beats intel at all, just having 2 quad/dual-core cpu monster with 2 hight end graphics cards is the part im satisfied.

I hate intel, i would never buy intel processor, it would make me think im traitor or something, thats the thing why im going to buy this pc, to beat most of intel machines.
And thats the thing why i have stayd in A64 3200+ so long because there isnt really AMD cpu that can beat C2D QX
EDIT : Just found some interesting tests about FX cpu's, they lose to overclocked 3.5ghz QX6700, even FX-62 beated FX-74 in some tests, and it seem to eat nearly 600watts of power with help of 2 7800gtx cards. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2065503,00.asp
It might not be bad idea of waiting few more months and see how quad-core phenoms etc. perform.

I could show you some numbers that might make you change your mind.
Stop thinking Intel?AMD and start thinking what is best.
As of this moment Intel is until we see with our own eyes what the new AMD's will do. It doesn't look good so far BUT I hope AMD pulls this one out.
As is stands right now the only thing that AMD outdoes the Intels on is memory bandwidth, in any other area the Intel kills them.
That's not me being a fanboy, thats pure fact.
Now if you want to go dual socket Intel, I'll spec you out a machine that will knock your socks off and for a hell of a lot less than 10,000 euro's.

In theory you can run SLI on the board I have in mind but it's one X16 slot and one X4 so you'll take a performance hit.
I would go with one 8800 ultra, save the $$ from the second vid card, then have it waiting when the next "latest greatest" vid card debuts.

Thank you. Yes, I love this combo. Never saw anything as fast overall.
Even with 8 cores showing 100% load it doersn't slow down.

Try this on for size: (Prices are rough estimate but close)
Case, thats personal but I beleived you mentioned water cooling so lets start with a average everyday case, a Lian Li 343B:With all the extras maybe $550.00
http://www.coolerguys.com/840556068044.html
Motherboard:Supermicro X7DA3+:$550.00
http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon1333/5000X/X7DA3+.cfm
PSU:2-PC Power+Cooling 750w:$360.00 total
One to power the WC and Vid, One to handle the rest of the system
http://www.pcpower.com/products/viewproduct.php?show=S75Q
memory: This is a sticky point. Right now the best you can get is DDR2-667FBDimms but in a few months DDR2-800FBDimms will be out.
Price is for what is available today
8 gig(8x1 gig) of DDR2-667FBDimm:$680.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145166
Video card:BFG 8800 Ultra:$700.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143107
Hard drives: What to suggest? I don't know your uses so I will try a compromise that hopefully anyone would love:$1200.00
2-150 gig WD Raptors in Raid 0 for the OS and 4-150 gig raptors in Raid5 for storage on a LSI Logic PCI-e SATA Raid card($500.00)
DVDRW: Sony Blu Ray DVD burner:$660.00(optional but we're going top end)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827131034
Last we come to the heart, the cpu's.
The absolute best ones available at this moment are a pair of Clovertown X5350 B3 ES's..Will do 3200 on air and my guess is 3500 all day every day on a good water cooling system. Cost when you can find them? Maybe $1200.00 to $1600.00 a pair right now.
Retail chips I would take the top X5365's..3000/8mb/1333
They sell for maybe $2000.00 a pair if you can find them.
I intentionally left out the watercooling as that is so personal a choice that it is almost impossible to tell but I would guess to budget $500.00 for it with a dual head system with 2 radiators and 2 pumps.
Total parts cost:$7000.00-8000.00 depending on cpu's chosen.
There is plenty of places to cut that figure but you wanted top, thats top.
Bon Apetit!:D
PS: Plenty of people will disagree with my choices in different areas and thats fine by me.
We all have different tastes and that makes life interesting but I don't think there's a person on this forum that wouldn't love to have the machine I spec'd here.

was thinking the same thing also. imo 2 ultras is not really worth it since you can overclock 8800gtx to similar speeds..

That's ok. I have very little ego. That combination is what "I" think is best and may not fit anyone else image of the "ultimate" machine.
If I was doing that for me, I'd kill the sony DVDRW and use a $33.00 Pioneer DVDRW,kill the 4 raptors for storage and use 4-$80.00 IDE drives instead.
Replace the water cooling with air cooling and be happy at 3100-3200mhz.
Those changes just removed $2000.00 from the price.
It's all in what your uses will be.
I hope you build your "dream machine"..The older I get the more I realise that we do need a few times in our lives to get the things that we want versus just getting by with something that will "just do".
Good Luck.

I-Ram is currently the best but it isn't exactly cheap ;)
1st :he is not building a budget rig
2nd: as far as I have reseached, what you are proposing is just a model of solid state drive:
Then Gigabyte unveiled the i-RAM, a $150 solid state-storage device that plugs directly into a motherboard's Serial ATA port, accommodates up to four run-of-the-mill DDR SDRAM modules, and behaves like a normal hard drive without the need for additional drivers or software.
So basically you are confirming my idea of the solid state drive :)

Im not going to SAS/FC/SCSI drives if motherboard dont support them and dont have controller for them, from S-ATA drives, Raptor's are must and as i sayd before its not up for discussion.
