Hi guys!

I'm planning to get a Freezone to cool down my QX6700. I'm presently using a TT Ultra Extreme, it a notch better than Gemini although but still I want to lower my temps more
I'm considering aa freezone coz its maintenance free.

any thoughts? no overclocking for me and I dont have any experience in water cooling, so I think this would do, unless you have any recommendation.

Thanks guys! :)

why would you need less if youre not overclocking? whats your temps at idle and load with the thermalright? and this website sells the waterkegIII which is an awesome external watercooling unit www.externalpccooling.com

If not overclocking, stick with air :)

well... i really just want lower temps... by the way, would you suggest the nextherm ics 8200? trouble this the interiors dont look that appealing what with only 5 drive trays... where will i put my HDs?

thanks guys!

If you mounted the Ultra-120 Extreme correctly, it should be more than a notch better than the Gemini. In fact, it's supposed to be the best heatsink you can get right now. Check AnandTech here (http://anandtech.com/casecoolingpsus/showdoc.aspx?i=2981&p=3). Do a search, there is a hack floating around to increase the mounting pressure on LGA 775.

Hey, I have the CoolIT Eliminator @3400mhz 1.36V I don't break 48c Full Tilt in Prime, its not a Q6700 but that should give you a idea of how well its little brother works!

A Q6700 with any sort of decent OC will be too much for the Freezone.

Well he's not going to OC... so.

So.. why not use the stock cooler and save allot of money on fancy cooling..

How can you tell him how it would work?

1. you have a dual core. the Q6700 is a quadcore

2. DO you own a quadcore? Do you know how hot these girls get up to?

Can people WHO DONT OWN quadcores please not participate in quadcore threads. The two cpu's are worlds apart when it comes to heat.

And i have 3 quadcores, so i know how these girls are. Freezone blows. Read the stickies, its a totally bad concept and idea in using TEC's. Your better off sticking with the ultra120.

It uses less energy and gets the job done @ near the same quality as that tec crap. If your going to drop 270 for a kit, your better off migrating to water with a petratech elite kit.

hi guys!

well, took your advice and i'm sticking with the TR Ultra Extreme...
it really is able to manage my temps well.

Thanks a lot to all of you who replied... your insights really made the difference...

QFT, but you should have read his sig and seeing that he owns a Q6600 before going off on him and looking like a :am:

Idle temps mean nothing.

You would need at least two freezones to run a quad core. If you want to oc you would need around 4 in a loop. I've been playing with them a while now and am building a case around four of them without the logic board crap and pumps that came with them. they are each running @16v and with 4x freezones in a very sloppy loop, I am idling at 10c with load temps at 29c. thats a q6600 1.425v with fsb @490x7 ad running at 3440. Freezones and their design have a lot of potential but the company seems to be producing very lamed down units prolly so they can feel comfortable about warranties, etc. heres a link to my work log. I have been able to run my units at 16v so far and I think I could prolly the volts up to easily 18v but I would need another PSU and very strong fans to cool the heatsinks. anywho I'm ramblin, check out the work log if you like.

You should even be able to overclock on the Extreme, that's one of the best air coolers you can buy.

I think he updated his sig after that comment ;)

He is using the eliminator though... And if I am not mistaken that is less powerful then a freezone. I know I am considering a Freezone myself but I was thinking of waiting for penryn quads to put it on. Not sure if that will make much of a difference. But if he can do that with an eliminator then a Freezone should do better.

IMO I would not use the freezone on a quad.

heck, I am not to found of them on a C2D!
