My girlfriend and her sister want a wired home network (I've been told by their parents that wifi is out of the question due to it interfering with some other stuff they have). Given that my GF will be paying I'm after the cheapest solution possible. My plan was to plug their NTL Ethernet Modem into a router, connect the downstairs family PC to the router and run a length of cable upstairs to a switch which will provide internet to the upstairs bedrooms. I assume this will work no problem? Only question in my mind is will normal ethernet cable work between the router and switch or will I need crossover cable for some reason?

Oh, as it needs to be as cheap as possible I found these routers, does anyone know of any problems with these 2 companies/products with regards to reliability/performance?

Thanks!
