Wonder how it will perform against three XP1700 JIUHB - setups you can buy for 3.000 $ ?

I wouldn't have any use for a mac, no matter how fast it is...

(especially for no $13,000.00 dollars  )

Okay, $13k is a lotta money, but remember that is a very high sever spec machine you are getting.

Macs do have thier uses (not many) but for a folding farm, if i had the money, i'd do that!

Look at the RAM on it!!

That thing would really fly with folding or with some decent server tasks being given to it.
One question, how much??

Haven't seen anything for prices myself, not gonna be cheap though, Dually Opteron boards are in the $500 arena, safe bet would be to at least double that, then add 4 processors, memory, case, HSF.......

Just priced up on komplett, and the boards costs just under £1000, CPUs are about £300 each, and 1Gb strips of PC2700 are about £260 each.

So about £5,500 for the board, cpu and ram.
Damn expensive, but it would fold like anything.

These might fold fast. but im not to sure about much else.
macs Use high quality parts but arent supported very well. you cannt upgrade them much, or anything. Apple is like a Hardware verison of Microsoft. once you buy it your stuck, you cant do much with it, and it doesnt work with anything.(not a very good saying but only crap i could think of on this hot day in calif)

But anyways. i dont like macs, but if they ever offer more hardware/software support then id be there. Hell they use fast firewire, and scsi as standard.
