First impressions are very important, but often lead to a wrong conclusion. That is what i learnt from the Iceage 120. This time 3R System has provided me with the little brother of the Iceage 120, the Iceage 90.

The Iceage 120 is designed for performance, but not everyone will have a case that is large enough, for example HTPCs are not that large, they won't have space for the Iceage 120.

This is where the Iceage 90 comes in handy, people with HTPCs want quiet but high performance heatsinks. The Iceage 90 will fit in a average sized HTPC case, and comes with a 92mm hydraumatic bearing fan which decreases noise levels.

System Specification
For testing, i placed the Iceage 90 inside my HTPC.

Intel Pentium D 805
Foxconn RC410 Motherboard
Patriot DDR2-667 512MB X2
Seagate 80GB HDD
Seagate 250GB HDD
Sony DVD+/-RW
2theMax GPV Series 450Watt PSU
ThermalTake Bach Series HTPC case

Testing & Results
I used 2 instances of Seventeen or Bust each allocated to one core and priority set to normal.
Aswell as having 2 instances of Prime95, again each allocated to one core and the priority set to normal.

Original Intel Heatsink
Max temperature recorded was 63C
Idle temperature was 39C

Iceage 90
Max temperature recorded was 53C with fan on high setting
Max temperature recorded was 60C with fan on lowest setting
Idle temperature was 36C

Conclusion & Comments
Even with the fan controller on the highest setting available, the fan produced so little noise that i had a hard time finding the noise. I had to unplug all 3 case fans and place my ear right next to the fan in order to hear some wind movement:up:
With the fan controller on the lowest setting, the fan was literally silent:D

Clearance was not a problem either, i had ample amounts of space around the motherboard and could even replace to case's crossbar over the heatsink, to provide a bit more strength to the case.

Size and noise level wise, the heatsink is a winner
Performance wise, nothing to brag about only being 3C lower than the original Intel heatsink, but with the fan controller on high it does go down to 10C lower than the original Intel heatsink.

I liked the Iceage 120 so much that i have placed it in my main rig, the Iceage 90 will stay in my HTPC.
A big thumbs up to 3R System

Pics will be uploaded latter today or tomorrow.

hey nice little review hixie .
can we see some pics of Iceage installed in to your motherboard..??
would be interesting to see the size of it.

btw were those temps with stock clocks and volts?
