Overall it seems that things are going to be alright. There's been some outrage in the bethesda F3 forums over the exclusion on groin and eye shots, (mostly groin) but it looks like the dialog might even be more complex and have more outcomes than even F2. The devs have said that there will be more gray/neutral outcomes. One of the previews mentioned that there will be skills mini-games, which I don't like the sound of at all. I like dislike the most is no more parties. So far in F3 the plan is to be able to hire someone every once in a while. No more mini-armies like F2. It really excludes a whole way to play the game. In F2 you could make your own character a great fighter, or have a high charisma character that could get lots of friends and do the fighting for you.

Also, one of the devs mentions that even having unarmed combat is up in the air. Again, another way to play the game could be excluded.

There also doesn't seem to be any more pip-boy comments. I didn't see the little green screen screen in any of the screenshots. It really isn't needed any more since the graphics will be so much more detailed, but to me it was one of those things that made fallout fallout. it amazes me how opposed the Bethesda guys are to Fallout 2. They hate all the side humor that it had which I thought really made the game more interesting. Yeah having Skynet in F2 was probably a little to far, but it looks like there won't be any more crazy special encounters. They said that most of the game will only take place in the DC area, so no more long walks/drives through the desert. I always looked forward to leaving a town just for the chance to have another crazy and completely unexpected thing happen. I downloaded a patch just to finish the holy hand grenade quest.

Bethesda said that they are really focusing on preserving the atmosphere. I'm worried that they're going to be a little too focused and just too serious. In my opinion atmosphere and dialog are the two most important things in fallout, so it should turn out to be a good game.

BTW, if you can't find some of the things I'm talking about, they're probably from the F3 forums. There are a lot of dev quotes that didn't make it into any of the previews.

Oh wow, that's very unfortunate. :(

I'm still a bit torn on Bethesda's "vision". Todd Howard rubs me the wrong way with his vision of gaming going by his interviews. I worry that the humour'll be sacrificed too much and the game made far too serious. 'Just a gut feeling I have considering Bethesda don't have a history of funniness. Unless you count the - at times - spastic Havok physics in Oblivion! :D

Time will tell, I guess. I'm quietly optimistic purely because I desperately want it to be great!
