I have a pair of pc8500 c5 that I need to RMA. Never OC'd them too hard and when I got them, I though I was getting D9's. I've since been told they are not and no c5's are D9's.

I'll need to get a new pair before I RMA the one's I have (I have one stick working right now, one dead). Is it worth it to get the c4 version and most imortantly, will it cause problems when I set EPP on my mobo with one set of c4 and one set of c5?

PC8500C5 are not Micron based, you may be confusing the PC8500C5 with the PC8500C5DF which are dominator modules, which do in fact use Micron IC's

http://www.corsairmemory.com/_datasheets/TWIN2X2048-8500C5.pdf - What you bought, not Micron based and was never claimed to be Micron based.

http://www.corsairmemory.com/_datasheets/TWIN2X2048-8500C5DF.pdf - The Dominator modules, which use Micron IC's and have been openly discussed as having Micron, which is why alot of people buy them. I believe if I am not mistaken the entire dominator line except for the 6400C4D all exclusively use Micron IC's....The Dominator 6400C4D uses Promos IC's the last time I checked, and there was a big fuss about them not being "micron" so alot of people wanted them changed.

your a little bit off based with your comments...completely off based in fact. Corsair has always claimed that PC8500 parts are Micron based:

of course, the official Corsair forum where all ICs are identified obviously backs this up:

just scroll to the bottom of the list and HTH

Hmmm, interesting thanks for the link....But what was the original poster talking about then? Did he inspect the module, or just going by hear-say? I wasnt quite sure why he wanted to RMA to begin with. I was a bit off base with the 8500C5 but not the rest of it :)

WOW... like I said, I have a paid of pre-Dominator 8500c5 and one is dead. In order to PMA I need to send both in so.... I'll need to purchase a set to use durring the RMA period. I've heard lack luster reviews of the 8500c5D and wondered if I should get a better stick (like the 6400c4D) and if I did, would it cause compatibility issues with the 8500c5 set I have now.

Recently, I saw how low the prices have gone for the 8500 Dominator so I'll probably get those either way.

The 6400C4D are not better than the 8500C5D..The 6400's use Promos ICs not Micron, unless you wanna shell out 400$ for 6400C3DF which use Micron. And I suppose you could use the 8500C5D with another set that isnt the same...Might have some trouble getting both to run though.

Just ordered a 2gb kit of the 8500 Dominator. Less than half the price of what I originally paid for the sticks I'm sending for RMA. OUCH!!!

At least I'll have 4gb RAm when it's all said and done. Time to upgrade my OS.

Don't know if I'll get this answer here but....

I'm sending my xms2 8500 c5 in for RMA and I asked Corsair if I could get a pair of comperable Dominator sticks back instead of the non-dominator edition. No answer yet from corsair. What do you think they'll say?

Probably no....the only time ive ever seen normals goto dominators...Was when the 6400C3 line got canned, and when you sent in an RMA you received 6400C3DF which would have been the equivalent part. Actually the guy I got my last kit of 6400C3DF from, actually had this happen. My guess since both models still exist you will get back 8500C5 and not C5D....but I could be wrong

The ram your RMAing is 168$ on Newegg after rebate....

the stuff you want is 153$ after mail in rebate.... So Im not sure, why not just take a loss on 8500 and sell them cheap and then get a set of dominators?

Don't think it's a big enough difference to warrant selling the ones I have and buying Dominators. I ordered a 2gb kit of Dominators and wanted the all my sticks to be dominator once I get the RMA back. Not sure what I'll do.

Most likely you will get C5s back, not C5Ds ( Ds = Dominators ). Also, never fear, all of our PC8500 1gb modules are Micron D9s. Typically, once a set of memory is off into "RMA Land" it is difficult to make changes to the procedure. They move them ASAP but, you are welcome to call customer service and request the change to Dominators.
