At last year’s Intel Developer Forum, Intel pledged to ship 1 million quad-core processors before AMD ships a single Barcelona processor. Intel reached this milestone today, approximately two months ahead of schedule.

Its 1 million 5300 series Xeons. 1 million is without 3200 and 6000 series quads.

The best part :):
Expect Intel to continue shipping 65nm quad-core processors this quarter and new 45nm Penryn quad-core processors in Q4’2007.

i still cant understand:shrug: why AMD decided not to produce a "quad core" cpu with their current tech...the X4 or whatever ,even if its not a native quad...clearly there is a market out there for non-native quads...and there is money to be made

I think it's probably cuz they didn't expect the K10 delays. Without the delays, we would've seeing the quad core K10 around now, so there's no point in making a quad core k8.

Hell if amd put out a nice 939 quad right now for $100 sometihng I'm sure a load of people would jump on it.

ya if amd made a 3600+x4 or something i would jump on it. and probably more than 1 to. but intel is doing things right this time around unlike netburst.:D

Hmmm...wrong interpretation , too much PR intoxication from AMD.AMD's marketing team came up with this gimmick but reality :banana::banana::banana::banana:slapped them with the largest trout possible.
The market doesn't give a rat's ass about what under the heatspreader as long as it comes early , offers high performance and acceptable price.
The "native" Barcelona falls flat on all 3 accounts.

I believe AMD just wanted the hype attention of saying that they were gonna be the first/more advanced ones over Intel to release the "first" real native quad core, so all the average consumers will be like, "HOLLLLY MOLY!!" even though they don't know what it means other than sounding special and cool. 2 dualies prove fast enough.
And yeah, Intel is on top of things.

If AMD put out a 939 quad at $300 Id jump all over it and hate them for doing it every step of the way for it. $300 AM2 quad would be the sweetness, since Im eager to make the switch to DDR2 memory since the upgrade path from there is much larger than DDR1.
But then again if anyone had a $300> quad out right now Id jump, along with alot of other people Id imagine. 1 million CPUs that are sold between $500-$1200 since december is insane still.

I'd go for a 939 Quad capable of 3 Ghz on air. :)
