I'm about to pull the trigger on my new system, which will have the GA-P35-DS3R and E6420 which I want to OC to 3.2/ghz.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around OC'ing and RAM timings  :brick: But I do understand FSB and 1:1 so I'm fine there. :)

Question #1: What advantage do the 1000's have over the 800's? If I plan to OC my E6420's FSB to 400, I know the 800's will do the job. If I go higher, do I want to get 1000's? But the 1000's are CAS 5. So I'm confused.

Question #2: And for my GA-P35-DS3 will 2 or 4 gb's be a problem? I thought I saw somewhere that 4gb's of ram doesn't OC or doesn't have the same stability as 2gb's

THANKS !!

I don't think the 4GB should be a problem, I use 4GB on my P35-DQ6. And I would go with the PC2-8000 stuff.

go for the 1000Mhz versions as they provide more bandwith and if you downclock them to eg 800 speeds you cna use lower latencies and use even tighter timings as the normal 800 speed models...

Eg my OCZ 8500 SLI can do 5-5-5-15 2T at 1066Mhz -- 4-4-4-10 1T at 800Mhz with 2.2 volts or 3-3-3-9 1T at 2.3 volts

For 4 gigs P35 has not much issues works fab too on the P5K Dlx here but make sure you ahve a 64 bit OS version to support the full 4 gigs, otherwise it's not worth the cash if you will use WinXP

Different boards, different voltage regulation...can't really say his are better if not all variables are the same.
