Tight on subtimings I mean :D

2x1GB Crucial PC2-8500 Ballistix @665.8Mhz 5-6-5-9

http://i4memory.com/reviewimages/memory/crucial/ballistix/pc8500/2/crucial8500_3.jpg

Thought I'd loosen up the memory timings to 5-6-5-9 and see how far I can go at 2.55v vdimm max with my 2x1GB Crucial PC2-8500 Ballistix dual channel kit in black dimm slots. Swapped in 92x38mm Delta 120cfm fan to cool the memory via a rheobus fan controller :)

System

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 ES - L710A438 G0
Corsair Nautilus 500 3/8" ID
Asus P5K Deluxe 0311 bios
128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
2x1GB Crucial PC2-8500 Ballistix dual channel kit in black dimm slots cooled by 92x38mm Delta 120cfm fan
74GB WD Raptor 8MB on SATA 2 port
Pioneer DVR-08 Burner
Sony FDD
1KW PCP&C SLI psu
WinXP Pro SP2

Here's where I ended up @665.8Mhz 5-6-5-9 6-35-8-6-8 at 2.55v which is the highest memory frequency I've done to complete Super Pi 32M on any motherboard. Previous best was @650mhz 5-5-5-18 (http://i4memory.com/showpost.php?p=62369&postcount=3) on Asus 680i Striker Extreme with 2x1GB OCZ PC2-9200 FlexXLC at 2.550v (http://i4memory.com/showpost.php?p=62369&postcount=3).

Its a P5K Deluxe.. it have a P35 Intel Chipset, not a 680I

my mind was elsewhere, i was thinking about another 680i thread with crucial....im an idiot :(

This is what I call tight. ;)

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gautamb/cas4max.PNG

That's something though, my mem controller hits a hard wall round 650 so any sort of stability at anything beyond that is pretty much impossible...I guess I can't hold out on P35 forever.

2.82v or so. Forget about pulling off any sort of stability at those sorta speeds unless you want your ram to smoke. :p:

And yes...something's gotta be done about this thread title lol.

You should be able to tighten tRRD and tRTP to atleast 4 for both values unless you've tried already ;)

Gautam
06-26-2007, 03:48 PM
No...those sticks didn't tighten like most. tRTP could've been 5 at the lowest at such speeds. 6 was probably necessary. tRRD 4 maybe.

Why don't you find me a memset of someone else running at 660 4-4-4 so we can compare? ;)

what's wrong with thread title.. I qualified the statement in the first line of the first post LOL

Very nice 660mhz 4-4-4-x for 1M... but me prefers aiming at 32M able clock frequencies :)

What's wrong with the thread title...you're at PC2-10652 not DDR2, that's what...that'd be 5326MHz lol.

I had a shot of 635 4-4-4 for 32m but lost it. :-/ I can do it again with another pair but the problem is I endanger my sticks any time I attempt something like that. :p:

my kits disagree. voltage alone doesn't kill, heat and current is really what does micron in.

edit: just noticed the humor of my sig in this situation

anyway, sorry for threadjacking eva :sofa:

if your gonna run 2.55v 24/7 then a fan wont due, a nice stay in a mental institution might though. but for a benching session, aka 32m spi, a nice 110+ cfm fan will do the trick.

lol Adam. You know I love my volts. The problem is my luck finally ran out with a set of ballistix 8000. I was doing 32M's for nearly two days straight for the low clock challenge at 2.72. We're talking probably 6 hours a day with very few breaks. Lotsa airflow, ram was cool to the touch. The ram isn't really "dead" yet...it doesn't even have the signature failure to POST at 1.8v problem. It feels nearly as good as new, but it doesn't clock anywhere nearly like it anymore. :( I'll put out my other set (even superior to that one) when I really want to make it count. I'll pretty much have to live with the risk of the set coming close to death if it gets pushed to the max. It tears me up inside because I hate babying anything...the problem with this ram is that in order to max its potential, you pretty much have to willingly kill it. Just take a look at the way Team Japan benches, they are merciless when it comes to voltage and subtimings. :D

So that's why I got another set of Team Group PC2-5300. Tough as a rock, 32M's and 3D at ~2.8v don't seem to hurt that stuff at all. Lack of spreaders maybe.

Anyways I've done a fine job of derailing eva's thread here. :shakes:

At least Ballistix are cheap for when you burn them out....

Good stuff though. Eva, I thought that P35's were bad with internal latencies, or is yours that low because of how fast the memory is now?

eva2000
06-28-2007, 09:21 AM
LOL Gautum...i always like to be able to repeat my oc's where possible.. one offs aren't my thing so i keep the vdimm relative low compared to you crazier folks :D I don't know how to volt mod so anyway P5K Deluxe limited to 2.55v max hehe. Probably why in all these years i have never killed any hardware I've oc'd ever!

I couldn't help myself and got a set or two more Crucial Ballitix 8500 this time tracers.. thought i'd get in before price rise.. testing away :D

MotF Bane, P35 have no internal latencies issues just need to be able to tweak all the subtimings and stuff.. having memory that likes the tight subtimings you set always helps ;)

too much current for too long! also, it could have been a spreader issue, god knows that crucial has issues with heatspreaders. they often dont touch meaning often HORRID tempuratures on the ram. but what can you do? they survive at stock for crucial so they dont care. i miss the days of good solid heatspreader contact like back in the ddr1 days

Yeah i should.. but thought if 8000/8500s aren't 4-4-4-x high then at least with 8500 the 5-5-x headroom might be enough to surpass lower 4-4-x at the right fsb/mem clock combination thereby getting similar end results :)

How high are you trying to get under 3-3-3-x and 4-4-4-x? As in, what's a good frequency for those with the Ballistix 8500's?

eva2000
06-29-2007, 05:24 AM
so far 540-560mhz 4-4-4-x is where my 2 sets of crucial 8500 ballistix non-tracers are at.. started testing my first 8500 tracer set still testing 5-5-5-15 max for now haven't gotten around to tighter timings yet

it really depends on how much voltage you're willing to give them ;)

Does the batch no.(eg. CL117N.HK, HR 11..........etc) on the heatspreader makes any diference on OC?
also I got a "10" on one pair, does anyone know what does it mean?

eva2000
06-29-2007, 07:19 AM
no idea what the 10 means.. but i have it on my new sets of Crucial PC2-8500 Ballistix Tracer editions.. testing my first set and 651mhz 5-5-5-15 at 2.45v easy http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2280618&postcount=166

as to the rest of batch code don't think it varies much in oc's my first set of Tracer 8500 i'm testing is spot on with my non-tracer 8500 for 5-5-5-15 clocks.. have yet to test max 4-4-4-x on the tracers set

...wow. Nice chart, thank you :D

I'm ahead of the line on 3-3-3-7; mine hit 415, didn't go higher because I didn't feel like playing with the FSB. 2.2V there by the way, I'm scared of going higher.

i've got 4 sticks of 10th ae.
actually got only 16m pi screens stable, for comparison to other polish friend ;). these settings are quite stable for 3dmarks too.

on p5kdlx can go ~1000mhz 4-4-4-4 2,25v, 1100mhz 4-4-4-4 2,45v, ~1250 5-5-5-15 2,5v

and just valid http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=206016 but it's stable on 2,55v to get 16mpi too.

on striker extreme and 2,65v can go:

I wanted a b3.just ordred an x3220 i think the go steeppings are a fanatsy.i like a good fantasy. After seeing kunaks 1333 fsb thread i think the lower vid will win. well anyway back 2 cb 8500 i dont know how they will run,but should i follow the specs or go higher with fans over them
