Hello at all,
with the new Memset 3.3 beta 2 a new voice appears: Performance Level. It seems odd that this "subtimig" works on P35 based board but, what can we say about i965 based board? It works?
My answer at this question is yes, it works, but only with 2:3 and 4:5 memory ratios. The 1:1 doesn't work.
Here you are some numbers...
Configuration:
- Intel E6600 @ 266x9 = 2400 MHz (default)
- DFI Infinity 965-S (I set only the main timings + tRCF and the classic Fast/Fast)
- 2x1 GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer 667 C3 @ 800 MHz 3-3-3-9 (with 2:3)
266x9 2:3 800 MHz 3-3-3-9 Performance Level 9

266x9 2:3 800 MHz 3-3-3-9 Performance Level 6
http://www.atris.it/Forum/photoplog/images/5226/1_2-3_mem_800_PL6__Large_.JPG
And then the graphs:
Bandwith

Latency

With the 4:5 the Performance Level has the same impact, but it's more delicate to set than with the 2:3.
With those numbers, there is a lot of consideration we can make about this setting...
- The uninfluence of Performance level with 1:1 ratio i due to i965 or Memset 3.3. beta 2?
- It's very interesting what values change and how they change with the different performance level
- This Perfomance Level works on all i965 board?
...
etc.
I hope this short test is useful for you. ;)
Bye!
P.s.: sorry for my English :)

interesting. I'll toy with it now on the DFI P965-S.

How is the difference if you raise the FSB higher so that it selects a different strap? Or can your memory not run that high?

...interesting, cause I don't know myself if Performance Level work
with P965 board. The stilt made some test with P35, not P965
and I ask me the question to remove PL with P965 on final version or not...
So I wait and follow this thread before update.

As soon as possible, I try to bench at higher fsb... my problem is not the ram, but the board... :D
BTW, 380-390 MHz of fsb with 2:3 on the memory it wil be easy. ;)

I'm seeing some slight improvement in Pi times. Currently testing my 24/7 OC of 3.8ghz 475FSB 1:1 on the DFI P965-S. I guess I'll have to buy everest again as my current license doesn't work for the newer version which supports vista & recognizes this board.

Instead of run all memory benchmark, you can use the trial version ad look only at the latency, it will be enough. ;)

tried it on my Asus Commando but memset 3.3 beta2 just loads with blank values.. 3.2 memset works fine though!

My latency remains unchanged regardless of what performance level I choose (50.7). When I boot up & start memset, the performance level is on max which is 12. I've tried 12 down to 1. No change in latency, slight change in bandwith.

But you test with the 1:1 ratio. According to my test, the performance level doesn't work with 1:1, at least with my configuration. Try the other ratio, if you want, and then tell me what happens. ;)

K tried 400FSB @ 2:3 then 4:5. Ran 32mb Pi & Everest fine, but system froze when I changed PL & clicked apply. I'll try lower FSB's..

:up:we've got same problem
this board (P965 DARK) is hard to handle FSB 400 (400x9 on my E4300) with 4:5 ratio but it's rock stable @ FSB 500 (500x7 on E6300) 1:1
i knew my E4300 can do 410 ish with DFI 975x @ 4:5 ratio
anyone had this issue?
in my case performance level is different beetween A and B
and every time i changed the performance level it freeze and reboot immediately:shrug:
nice find anyway

I just wanna confirm that on DFI 965 -S and 1:1 ratio PL don't work. I try it few days ago and I can change directly PL from 12 to 1, and nothing change. Unfortunately I don't try 2:3 or 4:5 and I don't have board anymore to check this settings.

The 4:5 ratio is a bit problematic with all i965 based board. The 2:3 on dfi give some problems when the ram is over 600 MHz. It requires a fine tuning of the dram timigs. ;)

I tested the new version of Memset on my DFI P965-S for the Ram overclocking and the Performance Level is very useful. I could up my Crucial at 763,4Mhz instead of 757Mhz and I think that I can still better do with this tweak ;)
Thus, it would be better to keep it in the final version
There's a no go on the Commando, not with the 4:5 nor the 2:3.
for me it just hangs as soon as i hit the apply button, i tried just one level below...but freezes instantly. Tried 400fsb, 333fsb. not working.
and if i go below, theres no use having the feature :)
regards.

I think now is useful to understand if it works on all 965 boards or not. Then we can consider the accurate tweaking of PL.
Maybe your Commando select the minimun value of stable PL in every situation, but this does't mean that PL doesn't work, ;)
hehe it works allright... but at 400fsb it chooses PL 9 ? quite high i think
and at 333 it choosed 7, and its diffrent witch Divider i used to.
it dooo work, couse the system hangs... :) i ment it just wasnt "working" :)

Ok... ;)
BTW at 266x9 with 2:3 the minimun selectable PL on my system was 5 (the shot i saved was corrupted....). At 400x9 with 2:3 (i flash te 424 bios, then i was able to boot with ram a 600 MHz), the minimum selectable PL was 7, the default PL.
Ah okey... looks like the 965 is sensitive for this kind of Change :)
