Perhaps this thread should be begin under general video cards thread, so if, move it.

My question:.. i have a 2900XT 512 and will buy a 1go DDr4 version like the card is out... But i have use X1950XTX ( CF mastercard) + X1900XTX, and cause the difference of memory speed, it was needed use 2 softwares for overlock the card ( or flash the bios of one..): overclockers tools ( software released for the X1800 at start) for the X1950 + ATi-tool for the X1900XTX.. this little tweakds have work really fine for me.. i have never get prob using this method and the result /score was amazing...

Now.. i can imagine it will be same then for the 2900 in case of 2 differents chips on memory ( DDR4 & memory)...
What do you think, it will be better sell the 2900XT and take directly 2 1Go DDR4 versions?..

I know this question is a little bit fast as not many peoples have the new 1Go version yet..

( plz excuse my bad english.)

The situation will be the same, that is if W1zzard can't come up with some true magic.

First of all you should know that it won't be easy to find 2900 XT 1GB, it's practically OEM and system builders-only. You'd be better of with the two 512MB as of now.

I had some fears that the 1GB card would have the same crappy memory timings as the 1950 did, but it seems that AMD/ATI has been able to tighten them a bit. I can't say for sure though, but it at least seems so.

GDDR4 isn't necessarily better than GDDR3 either, the timings of GDDR4 are worse than GDDR3 in general.

Not in Europe.. if in US the cards are given first on some specific internet reseller, here, there's not enough shop for do this.. OverclockUK have preorder right now.. and if you look in Switzerland.. there's no only reseller by internet, so principal shop will get them ( it's so a little country..)

So in real, no problem.. I can preorder them actually by 3-4 shops..

I know what you mean for the memory.. but i think the ringcontroller and the design of the architecture for the card give better advantage to 1go compared to 512mb... it's not like with the Nvidia, the G80 use a similar process of CPu's ( Stream processores - Lcache ( texture vertex etc..) and memory in serial.... here all is axed around the ringcontroller so a 512 bit controller should work better with 1024mo memory.. I don't think we will really see a big big difference, but in real we need wait one/2 drivers.. it was same with the X1800XT and X1900 series... we have need 4 drivers for see amazing gain.. in other ways.. the 1go are perhaps more adapted to future games..

But i bench more of i play now.. so if there's a gain it's all benefs..
