Great job there :). There is nothing wrong with a pot only 14cm height. It's solid so you dont need it bigger really.

what is the best base thickness?

interesting base thickness

i am getting mine made now and i'm using 2mm thickness with a centre groove right in the middle which will make the centre of the tube about 1.5mm like yours there

It works very good load-idle = +- 2-3°C.

having now seen KP F1 pot i can see how you could use that sort of base effectively but creating extra surface area....i don't think you will have any swing if the base was a little thinner or if you had the surface area and enough juice in ther to cover it all :)
