500mhz+ ? Could someone pls explain to an OC n00b?

My first ever build, a gaming rig, will consist of either a P5K vanilla or GA-P35-DS3R (whichever OC's better unless both are just as good, and I don't need SLI, IEEE, Wifi).

I plan to get the E6420 and either 2 gb's of Crucial 6400 or G.Skill HZ's <- both are Micron but I see more people recommending the HZ's and I guess they OC/perform better than the Crucials? (I wanted to get Crucial 2gb kit because they have a decent MIR at newegg.com)

Is it possible to OC the E6420 past 400 FSB with Crucial or G.Skill 800 or 1000 on air (TR 120 Extreme) ?

I see the 600mhz club and 700mhz club and wondering how you do this unless ya'll are using extreme cooling, which.. duh.. is probably why it's under the Extreme forums.. but still I am curious.

I'd love to if it's possible with my new rig.

Not so much xtreme cooling, more extreme voltage. either of those kits should go past 1000 no problem.

the fsb you hit is more or less dependant on your motherboard and cpu, since you can change the memory ratio to change the speed at which the memory operates at.. breaking 500mhz should be piece of cake with a board that isn't a pos and any non-value ram :up:
