Hey guys!. Regarding the new Boinc version 5.10.7 Was wondering if you guys could give me a little guidance regarding how to see and look at my boinc running on another computer from this one (my laptop) under the pref menu.
After i click the tab to select computer under the preff. dropdown menu it has the 2 fields one being a password and the other the computer name.
Question is: how do i connect to another machine at this point, like i know it depends on the network names ect, but is there anything i have to type aswell as the computers name i'm trying to connect to?
For example i call this machine moses, and would like to see the boinc client on my other computer named firechicken (original i know lmao:D )
what might i have to type in the computer field to get into firechickens client?
Also the password i changed on firechicken in the boinc folders gui_rpc_auth config file to one i know, was that ok to do or no?
Sorry guys for my notoriously long posts :D

Hi Michael! I'd like to know the same thing. What does need to go on those two lines in order to see other rig's clients. I've never installed BOINCView and if I don't need to I'd like not to.
So, yeah, what do we need to do to see the clients on other boxes?

In Boincview you need "remote_hosts" where your comp that's doing the looking (main rig) name is in there.
Next, you need to copy the "gui_rpc_auth" code...
Then restart and it should see the clients.

Thanks Dak, that got me headed in the right direction, cept it was remote_hosts.
Here you go Serlv, and any others that like to know, what i had to do on my reciving machines was creat a new config file called "remote_hosts.cfg" inside the BOINC folder. I then added in any ip addys or computer names that I will be connecting from, so for example:
I was wanting to connect to a client on my desktop machine from my laptop so on the desktop machine I created a "remote_hosts.cfg" file inside the BOINC folder, and added my laptops (in my case my behind the network ip addy) or you can use the computer name. you only put 1 ip addy or computer name per line of the computers you want to allow to get at this client. so to add more computers you just add another addy or name on a new line like:
192.168.1.100
192.168.1.102
sorta like that:up:
Soon as I did that i got windows firewall, ornorton or whatever you have pop up asking if you like to permit access, and Bam, away she goes, and is working like a charm!!
Oh BTW, after you make the new fil and change make sure to exit BOINC and then restart it up, and you should get a firewall message or somthing asking if you want to allow ect.:D
So Hope that helps you along Serlv, and hope anyone else wanting to try this can get it going doing it like this. Cheers.

Ok, well thanks for the help. I'm not getting through, though.
For instance, I have a box called "Opty175". I created a file called "remote_hosts.cfg", put the IP of the computer I'm on in there and dropped this file into the BOINC folder of "Opty175". I restarted BOINC on ""Opty175" and then tried to connect to it from the BOINC Manager on this machine. There is two lines, one for host's name and the other for a password.
What password, specifically, are they asking for? I tried using the password that "Opty175" runs under. I also tried using my BOINC password.
edit - I also tried using the Opty175's key found in the Opty's gui_rpc_auth.cfg file. Guess I'm a little thick or slow with these things. So what now?

You need the gui_rpc_auth.cfg password

You need the gui_rpc_auth.cfg password
There's one file in the Boinc folder that's called 'gui_rpc_auth.cfg'. You can open it, edit the password and fill that in in the Boinc client, or fill in the code that's already there.

Ok. have a look at the "notes" section of this old post (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=136439&highlight=remote). The same concept applies her too.

Oh damn sorry serlv, I knew when i went to bed i forgot to mention that " gui_rpc_auth.cfg" file  sorry about that lol. I'm not with it around here anymore lol,
but these guys came to the rescue and fixed my lack of directions hehe.
Yeah i just open up that file with notepad or your favorit editor found in the same BOINC folder and delete that big looooooong key or password it makes and put one of my own in there, or delete it and put none in there if you really wanted to. Then save it, and fire BOINC back up and have at er, for ur computer name you can type "opty175" and for the password you can put in what ever you made it to in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg" file, everything should now work good i hope:up: :D
Oh just make sure when you save the file you save it as a ".cfg" wouldnt want the file looking like .cfg.text or anything funkey hehe.
Cheers guys for comming to the rescue on my rather non-informative post lol.
