Well, been here too long to not have done this before, no idea why i did not before, just lazy i guess. On Vista X64, seems to be working, one question, does boinc use my 2 8800GTX's as well? Seems a waste to have there power just idle as well.

OK, question time then, is their some sort of options page that allows me to select CPU usage, or is this automatic, I noticed the snooze tick, but nothing like "allocate 75%" will it just use all available resources when they are not in use? Also, is there something that will fold on my 8800's? Something I can add to the mix without disrupting the WCG?

On WCG website go to Device Manager -> Device Profiles -> click on your profile and select custom profile. It will allow you to modify all advanced options. You can do so on your computer if you installed latest BOINC client.

Well, you see, since WCG doesn't use GPUs, a lot of people have begun to downgrade their cards to save power. A dual clover system will most likely be operating with a PCI video card, or no card at all. I don't remember who it was that got crap by the sales people for getting a Kentsfield and $200 mobo, then asked for the cheapest GPU they had. F@H is the only one with a GPU client, but that is only for the DAAMIT cards.
*puts thumbs in suspenders*
Now, what yer gonna wanna do is sell those GTX's fer more parts, yeap. You ain't gonna be doin' none gamin' no more. Yer gonna be spendin' more time at work to pay fer electricity, I reckon. Ya see, there's dis here disclaimer thing, and, aah, you might wanna ignore that for a little while, I s'pose. :yepp: Yeap, just ignore SigFever when he come 'n' tell ya 'bout it.

Welcome to the team. Great bunch of folks here. Thanks for joining us. New-Egg and Visa will probably thank you shortly.....:D :D

I was the one who got the strange look buying parts for my farm machines. I went to Fry's, our local shop, bought a Q6600 and an EVGA 680i board. I was asked if i wanted a video card with it and told the guy "no thank you, I'm going to put a 3 dollar Ebay PCI video card in the machine. He thought I was nuts....

I understand video card crunching is being worked on. I bought SLI ready boards for that reason. We'll see how it performs. I can then just slap something like 8800GTSs in the farm and have a cheap upgrade. It's got to work out on the price/performance factor.

And so it goes.......

Regards,
Bob

Welcome to this insane asylum. We are a crazed bunch of number crunchers, but we have a nice community in here and a purpose that drives us. Sometimes we might even drive to hard ( whatever that is...? )!

DON"T DO IT. Don't let the madness take you over. Just limit yourself to 5 or 6 crunchers and you'll be ok.

I just now saw my power bill and I've never seen anything that obscene.

My parents have been wondering this for the last few months that I've had multiple folders, I have tried blaming people leaving lights on but now they've switched to to energy saving light bulbs. Now my reasoning is the sister leaving the TV on when she goes out but she'll be leaving home soon and I'll be excuse-less :(.

Welcome to the team linflas!! btw every thread here will go quickly off topic and for that all I can offer is my apologies :p:.

LOL, well I had been planning on putting up a few solar panels, and maybe building a windmill, hmm that was to get me off the grid, guess if what you guys say is true, may just have to dedicated it to a farm. I do have a couple of P4's laying around somewhere I think, will have to look again.

Thanks for the welcome.

My parent's have busted me.... they were wanting to know why the power bill was so expensive. I guess 6 machines was too much. Unfortunately i was forced to cut back to 4. It's ok though because they were old slow machines, hopefully gonna replace them with some duals or quads this summer.
