Conroe the Final Frontier, Where all motherboards want to venture, however some are let down with NO BIOS support or VRM support.

In this article, I will show you how to get past all of this, and use your older Chipsets to run Conroe.

I can not stress how much this will Invalidate your warranty, :ROTF:
If done incorrectley it could also do some serious damage to your hardware.

VRM
What is the diffrence between VRM 10.1 and VRM 11.0.

Quite alot of diffrence, Some of the diffrence includes the way the chipset and VRM decide to detect the processor via the diffrent VID's.

Quoted from this article Click me here (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ru_en&url=http%3A%2F%2From.by%2Findex.php%3Ftitle%3D%25D 0%259F%25D0%25BE%25D0%25BF%25D1%258B%25D1%2582%25D 0%25BA%25D0%25B0_%25D1%2583%25D0%25BA%25D1%2580%25 D0%25BE%25D1%2582%25D0%25B8%25D1%2582%25D1%258C_Co nroe)

Typically VRM 10.1 detect and apply the startup VID voltages via VID0 to VID6, However VRM version 11.0 use VID0 to VID7.
The newer version of the VRM also supplies a diffrent level of power output to the chip, when trying to POST.

From the above article

Signal VRDSEL, contact AL3. It answers for the discernment the processor of the suitable platform. It must not be connected with the earth, separated on the the processor you sokete, otherwise processor simply will not be neglected. On the "old" pays is designated as Vss, i.e., the "earth". To insulate it is possible by varnish for the nails s grow prettier by drying into two layers, otherwise needle from soketa can it pierce.

Signals Msid0-msid1, contacts W1-v1 respectively. They answer after Market Segment Selection and for Conroe they must be connected by the "earth". Accordingly, for the pays of those not supporting the standard of the nourishment of 0shchV, we connect W1-v1-u1, since U1 nothing else but Vss. In the author's version of its role it did not play, everything works also without it, but in the older systems it must be.

We connect contacts Am1-am2-am3-am4-al4-al5- al -ak4-ak5. This for connection VID0-5 c Vss. Thus we advance the starting stress of 1,08 volts for the starting of the stone (see table VRM11). This connection is proposed for the "optimization of action by hands", i.e., is sketched one path, which connects earth (Vss) with all VID- ami, which it knows vol'tregulyator VRM10. It is possible this cross connection not to sketch generally, but who knows, what naprugu will give out not native for Konroya VRM. (although I risked and was obtained the starting stress of 1,414 volts - this on the external voltmeter). "starting" - because starts CPU precisely from the stress to on- silence. Further in process of POST is advanced the stress, assigned by user.
We connect contacts D23-c23. signal VCCPLL it moved with C23 on D23. here in inquisitive researcher it can arise bewilderment, since they are indicated on Land Listihg and the "old" signal VCCIOPLL on the contact Of sи, and "new" VCCPLL on contact D23. but in the description of signals to the processors of a series Of e'000 as such VCCIOPLL no completely. It can they did forget erase from the map of feet? Desiring can measure these (D23-c23) contacts on the processors of a series of 8khkh. judging by everything in these CPU the enumerated feet must be connected in the packing. Shorter without this cross connection it does not work

Now comes the BIOS.
Without CPU Microcode in the BIOS the motherboard will not POST, if it does post it will not detect the CPU correctly.

The motherboard will Need a CPU Microcode update.

I have managed to Mod one of my Conroe CPU's and managed to get it to work with VRM 10.1 and with a modified BIOS. Please click here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=148796)
if you have any questions Please post

Ty for these articles, now I am trying to understand something from that.

By the way: R1 and R2 are not the same.

Look at north and southbridge R2 is not Ati Express 200, its VIA 800.
Cant give you link, beacuse Asrock site's down.

are you sure ?
I quickly looked through the product spec pages, and they all looked the same to me
Maybe Ive made the mistake, however Ive tried both my BIOS and one from the asrock website for r.2 and both work.

Edit > I think your confused with the 4core vsta
