How do you guys burn-in your ram? I've seen the question a few times from different people in some threads, but not a clear anwser :)

So I think this might be usefull for all newbies like me :)

Thx

ive read from someone that u just run sandra mem burn in... make sure u change the mem options though so it uses all of your ram.. not just 128 megs of it by default

yea sandra works IMO you could use alot of different programs, I use memtest v2.0 now as it will test 100% of available memory automaticly now and will report any errors.

Here is a link with EVERY bench and burn in program available:

WOW , thx never saw that site before.
Do I have to set the voltages high? Or just everything at default and burn in?

how to burn in ram:

first find the highest speed it can run without any errors. then lower the MHz and run more agressive timings. alternate these burning in for however long you can.

or at least thats what i've been told.

arnaudnl I would start with default voltages and like felix says run the ram at the highest fsb that you can without errors. After burning in at the default voltage for 48-72 hours then increase the default Vdimm voltage a notch and repeat. You can use the computer during the burn-in process btw with out even stoping memtest v2 as it will automaticly adjust the memory being tested. You system of course will be hindered by the test and may seem sluggish. After you have reached the Vdimm that you would like to run at or the highest Vdimm option on the board I would concider the ram "burned in". Besides the fact that it is suggested that this will allow your memory to acheive higher clocks and votages, more importantly for new memory if you get a bad stick it will fail while you still have an oportunity to RMA or exchange.

Ok, thx Major :)
Damn 48-72 hours is a lot.
I've got one samsung stick now and one kingston, not hyperx. Both pc2100. With only samsung I can get about 142 fsb, but with kingston only 135 :(

Maybe this burning in will help it a bit.

You can shorten the cycle to 24 hours if you wish and like I said you can use the computer during that time. But it will take a couple or three days of burn in before you seen any benifit

You'd better buy some decent ram, like corsair....no need to Burn-in those things :P just run them at high speeds and enjoy the day :D Perhaps you should try to raise the Vdimm and then start burning-in...If the memory keeps running just add some more mhz...Until it stops...at the highest mhz you can reach you should do the burning-in.

Well im gonna burn in my corsair to see if burn in really helps :toast:

Even the corsair and other mem need some burning in

i personally use memtest86 to burn in ram

www.memtest86.com

loop test #5 for several hours try not to get any errors :)

Thx all u guys, my ram wouldn't run at anything higher then 135 cas 2 :S
But now I got it running at 140 cas 2 and everything seems stable, I did about 30 hours of burning in with memtest 2.0. It may seem like a bad oc, but for me with these sticks its a nice speed.

Thx a lot :D
